Neighbors!

Our third annual, HWEN-wide yard sale will take place on Saturday, September 19, from 8-2. Two years ago, the weather was spectacular on our chosen date.  Last year, we postponed a week because of terrible weather on the chosen day. Fingers crossed that we will have a beautiful day on the 19th, but we will think about rain-dates as we get closer.

Here are a few frequently asked questions:

1.  Where will the yard sale take place? Your own yard!  Or, if you want, and they agree, a neighbor’s yard.  Or in the courtyard of your apartment building, if that is allowed. We’d love to have participation throughout the entire neighborhood, and the greater the participation, the greater the foot traffic.

2.  Do I need to sign up ahead of time to participate?  Nope.  You can decide the night before, or even the morning of. But, if you want a sign, or if you want to be sure your street is highlighted in any promotion, please do let me know at your earliest convenience (and by no later than Friday, September 4th).

3.  Should I nonetheless let you know if I plan to participate? Yes!  That will help us with any targeted promotion we might do, and is also an opportunity to get a sign. Just send me an email at colin....@mac.com.

4.  How is the yard sale being promoted?  As with prior years, we will plant signs all over the neighborhood the week before the yard sale. In addition, we will announce the yard sale on social media, and will try to find other free places to advertise.  We expect to print a bunch of flyers to be posted in the neighborhood and around town. Please feel free to spread the word far and wide!

5.  Do I need to stay open the entire time (8-2)?  That is entirely up to you. It definitely pays to be open at 8, however — that is when the pros will arrive, if not earlier.

6.  Is this an excellent opportunity for my kids to sell lemonade, cookies, cake, etc.?  By all means, yes!

7.  You’ve mentioned signs a few times.  Can you tell me more?  We plan to plant a few dozen yard signs throughout the neighborhood.  Yard signs are probably the single best way to get the word out and our hope is to have them scattered throughout the neighborhood and all along the main routes (21st, Natchez, Blair, Woodlawn, etc.), as well as in the yards of participants.  If you are willing to let us put one in your yard, please let me know!  Just drop me a line at colin....@mac.com

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Hi all —

We are just over one month away from our annual neighborhood yard sale!  See below for the general details.

I’m writing with one new piece of information:  In past years, we’ve listed the yard sale on GSALR.com, but just using one house as the target address.  This year, I wanted to give neighbors a chance to have their address specifically included in the listing which, I think, could boost attention on that site.  If you would like to have your address included, just let me know by no later than August 29.  If you have already told me you plan to participate in the yard sale, I will separately follow up to see if you would like to have your information included on GSALR.com.

Thanks!
