Hi all,
I've been in contact with a few producers who are interested in meeting, maybe around New Paltz, sometime in the next month. The goal is simply to reconnect and talk and drink cider, or beer- I don't care. Who is interested and what days are good? Just to throw a suggestion, I'm thinking Thursday the 30th, like 7pm.
Also, there is discussion about who will help with Cider Week locally, since it is now separate from CW NYC. I can play a roll but I’m limited to certain times of the year- It does not make sense to volunteer if it disrupts my schedule, which being tied to the apple/ cider season is probably about the same as most producers. I’ll suggest 3 strategic dates, but first mention that I think it’s a mistake to separate CiderWeek HV from NYC because the businesses up here (or at least the higher-end) don’t see themselves as separate, they see themselves as an extension. The engine for excitement is in question. One option is to plan events at the same time, just call it by different names. This option I call the piggy-back plan.
The other 3 strategic times of year I think would be good for CW HV (and ultimately CW NYC) is: (1) the two weeks before Thanksgiving (prepping customers to stock cider- and not wine- for the holidays, and after the harvest), (2) the second week of September (ramping customers up for the whole cider season, and hopefully before the main harvest.), and (3) early May (when previously wintered ciders are released and blossom kick-off the next vintage year.)
