Bitwise Compression article and code

I recently was intrigued by the bitwise compression used in most of the Hutter Prize entries and wanted to understand it a bit more.  I wanted to understand how and why you weren't giving up anything by not considering whole words (or symbols) at a time.  [spoiler alert: you aren't].

I wrote this blog post giving some details and a link to available code implementing it.
