Melling Bridge and Block Road works – overnight road closures
As part of Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi, Greater Wellington is carrying out important flood protection work along the Hutt River. These upgrades are designed to help protect communities, ecosystems, and vital infrastructure from the increasing risk of severe weather events.
There will be some upcoming night-time road closures at Melling that are needed to support tree removal on both sides of the river.
To ensure everyone's safety, Melling Bridge will be closed at night to all traffic between 9pm to 5am over five consecutive nights from 12th to 18th August (weather permitting).
Pedestrian and cyclist movements across the bridge will be catered for by providing intermittent escorted access. However, we advise cyclists and pedestrians planning to use the bridge between 9pm and 5am to consider alternate routes on these nights.
Block Road in Melling will also be closed in both directions between from 9pm to 5am from 12th to 21st August. Pedestrian and cyclist movements on the adjacent trail will be catered for under escort. Detours for both road closures will be signposted. This will allow us to safely remove trees adjacent to the bridge.
If you have any questions about this work, or would like to find out more about the wider Te Wai Takamori o Te Awa Kairangi programme, visit: www.teawakairangi.co.nz or email in...@teawakairangi.co.nz.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we get this important work completed.
