Hi Hutt people,

Hutt Council wants to lower speeds and install raised pedestrian and bike crossings. That sounds like a plan worth our support.

Who has a moment to send them some feedback?

Here's some resources on the benefits of safe speeds.

Patrick

Hi Patrick,

Thanks so much for speaking to me. If you can spread a word about this and get any feedback, that would be super helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions at all.

As discussed, I am trying to collate as much feedback as possible before the 8th February, many thanks. 😊

Thanks for letting us know Patrick.

I’ve sent the following:

Could I please strongly endorse the proposal for a crossing on Harcourt Werry drive below the Kennedy Good Bridge.

Safely connecting the river trail with Avalon is a key link in the active transport network through Hutt.

Increasing uptake of active modes will:

·         Reduce preventable death through cancer, heart disease and diabetes

·         Make a small but important contribution to the huge mode shift we need for the HCC to achieve it’s CO2 reduction goals for the City

·         Decongest our roads for those who need to still need to use cars

If a speed reduction is necessary to make this crossing tenable, that is a worthwhile price to pay for the above outcomes (in addition to the safety outcomes of speed reduction).

Please note, the path from the crossing up to the road will also need upgrading – it is much too narrow to safely be a bidirectional shared path.
