Hi folks!
Some information regarding the upcoming closure of the Hutt River TRB path (Western side), and what trail options are planned to be available…
Thanks,
Gene

Kia ora Gene,
Thanks for your email.
Please see below a plan showing what the pathway network in this area will look like after we switch the primary river trail from the true right bank (TRB) to the true left bank (TLB) in October 2025.
For Western Hills residents using Harbour View Road and Tirohanga Road, there will be no changes initially. The crossings at the traffic lights will remain to access Melling Station, the Bridge and Pharazyn Street.
For residents at Grounsell Cres, they will still be able to cross SH2 and access the river area, but they will only be able to go north from this point, as the river trail to the south will be fully closed. If these residents are looking to access Melling Station area on foot or cycle, the options are either to detour north via Kennedy Good Bridge and the TLB path or use the Western Hutt Walkway to follow the Northbound lanes of SH2 down to Melling Intersection area and cross at the lights. This walkway will be cleaned up prior to the TRB closing.
It’s worth noting that this will change again in January 2026 as Melling Station, Block Road and Pharazyn St are closing, which will lead to further path detours that will be communicated once finalised.
We will be providing more information about these changes to the public starting next week including on our website, Facebook page and on site signage. All comms will include a map, details about the change, reasons why it’s needed, and ways to get in touch with the project team.
