Subject: Wellington Water. Rocky Point update
Kia Ora
I am just wanting to update you on the work happening at Rocky Point on SH2 – the area between the BP and the Horokiwi turnoff.
The barrier relocation work which we intending to keep you informed about as it was expected to have several nights of lane closures, has actually been completed, and, in a single night!
The contractor completed the work much earlier than anticipated in order to get ahead of the weather warnings and we did not have sufficient notification to advise prior. Apologies for this and I hope this did not cause any inconvenience.
There are however, a few more nights of mobile operations taking place but these are not expected to be impactful.
Once this work is completed, it will increase the pipeline’s ability to absorb different movements during an earthquake, providing additional protection to the pipe. This is particularly crucial as this connection runs parallel to the Wellington Fault and could be vulnerable during a major earthquake.
Thank you for your understanding and patience as we carry out this critical infrastructure work which will protect Wellingtonians’ access to clean drinking water in the event of a large earthquake.

Subject: Wellington Water. Work happening on SH2. single lane night closure
Kia ora
I am reaching out to give you a heads up!
Work is scheduled to start on 14 July next to SH2, between the BP truck stop and Horokiwi turnoff, as we install an earthquake-resilient pipe connection on a key pipeline that carries water from Hutt Valley to Wellington City.
As part of this work, a single lane closure overnight – expected to be from 9pm to 6am - will be required to relocate the safety barriers at the site before and after the installation. Please follow signage, drive with caution while passing through this section and maintain your traffic speed where possible. We will let you know of these dates closer to the time but is likely to be at the end of July for about a week.
No lane closures are required while the installation work is underway for the pipe connections.
