Petone Shared Path Improvements
Two new shared paths alongside Wellington harbour are set to open in early 2026 – Te Ara Tupua which runs from Ngauranga to Petone and Tupua Horo Nuku which runs from Point Howard to Eastbourne. We're anticipating a big increase in people cycling and walking along the Petone waterfront once the paths open.
We've identified a number of locations where improvements need to be made to ensure the safety and enjoyment for all users expected to come through the Petone waterfront
Improvements include repairing, widening (to 2.4m where possible) and resurfacing sections of the shared path in asphalt to better accommodate higher volumes of users.
Work is being carried out in stages to minimise disruption. The first two areas getting improvements will be in Hīkoikoi Reserve - south from the boatsheds (starting 23 January) and east from Lions Park (starting 26 January).
Stakeholders in the area are being updated as the works progress and signage will be placed along the Petone waterfront to let regular users know what's happening.
Hi Bruce!
Thanks for this. We knew this was coming (mostly via you), but I haven’t seen this particular update yet (nor anything recent). We are due another meeting shortly, I’ll see what can be arranged.
Thanks,
Gene
