Hi folks,

The information on the NZTA web site about the P2N project is rather sketchy.  For example, it does not address the Kaiwharrawharra shared path, Petone Esplanade, Dowse Interchange or lack of road shoulder at Melling.  Not much on the width or path surface for the road side option along the waterfront, or details of the reclamation for the seaward side.  How wide is the actual reclamation?  Where is the 3m width measured, etc.

The road side option aims at a 3m width, but this will be achieved for only 80% of the length.  So there will be a number of pinch points, which might make this option very unattractive.

So far 650 submissions.

Rob Napier, the AECOM project manager, is available on Friday 14th March at the AECOM office to go over the details –they have a lot more than is on the web site.  If you would like to attend this meeting, please let me know, and what times would suit you on the Friday.

Hi Tom
Only read this now - are the AECOM offices in Wellington or Lower Hutt? I may be able to go if it is in Wellington - depends on time - I have a meeting usually on a Friday am at work.
Cheers
Elaine

My understanding is that Kaiwharrawharra section is going to be sorted with WCC/GWRC separately to the P2N project and the Esplanade is Hutt City’s issue, the others however are very relevant.   I am happy to attend with you Tom - I am flexible on time on that day.

As discussed today I will develop some bullet points for next Thursday’s monthly Network meeting to form the basis for a discussion at that meeting to work up  a formal Hutt Network submission.  It will be bare bones bullet points as you have and others have greater knowledge. It will be a discussion starter.

The lovely old facility gets hammered for being too narrow and too close to the road.

Note that a reclamation designed to protect the rail lines would ideally be much wider than 3 metres. There would be room for improvement if a 3m-wide path were found to be too narrow in the future. The roadside option will be less than 3m in places and will have restricted space for handlebars due to constant barriers and poles right on the path edge.

I wish the consultation document addressed how the roadside option would connect with SH2. Would that only happen once riders reached Dowse Interchange?

Cheers,
Simon
