Can you please arrange to maintain the shared trail at the Petone wharf carpark to its full width.
Photo shows grass  spreading nearly 1m from the seaside of the trail.
Thank you

Thanks for requesting that, Graeme.  I've also made the following request to the HCC:

Kia ora.  There is a longstanding problem at the carpark by the Petone wharf, where there is a narrow shared path with poor access and insufficient width for people on foot and on bikes to safely and comfortably share that space.   I have previously requested that the HCC remove the carpark at the west end so that cyclists can avoid the narrow shared pathway and use the car park area itself to access or exit the wider shared path at the west end.

I am bringing this request back to your attention as this problem also impacts our Riding with Olivia volunteer group (a local chapter of the worldwide Cycling Without Age organisation).  We take aged and disabled people for rides along the Petone foreshore using our so-called Trio Bikes which have a wide seat at the front for two people to sit on.   Our rides are both to the Petone Foreshore Playground at the east side and to the Waimarino boatshed at the Honiana Te Puni Reserve.

It is very difficult to access the narrow shared path at the Petone Wharf because of the width of the bikes.  Other walkers and cyclists have to move off the path to let us pass.  Also, this bit of shared path is rough because of roots that have pushed up the asphalt, making it an uncomfortable experience for our passengers.

Below are two photos that show the car park bay that we recommend is turned into a no-parking space to give access to the wider shared path at that point.   As per the illustration below the photos, markings and bollards would be needed to stop people parking in that space, but with sufficient width to not make it difficult for our trio bikes to get through.

As per my previous request, this also encourages cyclists to use the same access / exit point to avoid the narrow shared path.
