Godaddy-hosted email (if you choose to host your email through godaddy) is hosted under the "secureserver.net" domain. In fact, the addresses you configure into your mail client are pop.secureserver.net, imap.secureserver.net, smtp.secureserver.net, etc.
If you configured your Godaddy webmail (for perhaps some other domain) to pull in mail from your Gmail account, then you will see it show up as going to secureserver.net rather than whatever domain your mail is registered under.
secureserver.net is the name GoDaddy use as the reverse DNS for IP addresses used for dedicated/virtual server hosting. The owner of the IP address 97.74.115.169 is a GoDaddy customer. From looking at domains hosted on that address, it may be packetfusion.com.
So perhaps someone compromised their server and is using that as a proxy to access your account, or maybe someone is using whatever service it is they provide to access mail. Either way you would have to follow it up with them and not GoDaddy.
According to my websearching, secureserver.net is a domain that's owned and operated by GoDaddy, and that GoDaddy uses to provide email services to its customers. For example, GoDaddy customers can set their SMTP server for outgoing email to smtp.secureserver.net, and use that to send outgoing email. Similarly, GoDaddy customers can read their email there (via POP or IMAP). It appears that GoDaddy also occasionally sends emails to its customers from the secureserver.net domain. GoDaddy may also use it for other purposes as well.
Did you perhaps enter your gmail account and gmail password into the secureserver.net website, or provide it to GoDaddy? Perhaps their software on that domain will check your Gmail for you if you provide it with your Gmail username and password (I am speculating now, as I am not a GoDaddy customer).
Change your security question, too. Then, go to the Activity Monitor (click on "Details" next to the thing saying "Last account activity: X minutes ago at this IP (xx.xx.xxx.xx)") and click "Sign out all other sessions".
Also, check the list of secondary email addresses and the forwarding options for your Gmail account to make sure that your Gmail is not being forwarded somewhere (a favorite ploy of hackers, if they gain access to your Gmail account, is to set up a secondary address or forward your email to themselves, so they can regain access later using a password reset).
While you're at it, consider enabling 2-step verification); once that is activated, logging into Gmail will require both your Gmail password and access to your phone. This will help prevent cases were other try to log onto your Gmail, since they won't know the verification code that is sent to your phone.
I have used the WP page to add to my DNS for godaddy email setup using WP instructions, but it is still not working and I cannot work out what I have done wrong. it has been 3 days since I made the change so if it was going to work I should be working by now.
thankyou I have used your information and changed the DNS settings I had entered with the advise from wordpress re godaddy. and have instead entered what godaddy says to enter for DNS in the wordpress settings.
MX (email visible only to moderators and staff) 10 mailstore1.secureserver.net.
MX (email visible only to moderators and staff) 10 smtp.secureserver.net.
CNAME email email.secureserver.net.
CNAME mail pop.secureserver.net.
Good point Thankyou for bringing that to my attention, silly me.
The current DNS settings I have entered into my wordpress settings from recommendations of godaddy are :
0 smtp.asia.secureserver.net
10 mailstore1.asia.secureserver.net
MX (email visible only to moderators and staff) 10 mailstore1.asia.secureserver.net.
MX (email visible only to moderators and staff) 0 smtp.asia.secureserver.net.
CNAME email smtpout.asia.secureserver.net.
CNAME mail pop.asia.secureserver.net.
If you are trying to use those CNAMES and they are incorrect that could be what is causing you issues. Also, the GoDaddy rep should be able to do a lookup using one of their tools to see if your records are testing OK within their system, and if not which ones need to be corrected.
Thankyou Thankyou Thankyou everyone, just so grateful for your help, this had been doing my head in.
I have just made your suggested changes to the CNAME so fingers crossed it is working soon.
Thanks again!
I have my mail server hosted in Godaddy. My domain is also registered in godaddy but, I have third-party name servers which is Route53 from aws. I have my website there. Now, for the mail server i wanted to keep using godaddy hosting. So, I created these records in Route 53 hosted zone.
Now, my mail is working fine except that no emails from outside my domain is not received. I can send to outside domains though. What could be the problem here? I followed this: Why won't webmail receive emails from outside my domain?. But, does not seem to solve my issue. And it's almost five days, after I switched the name servers.
GoDaddy uses email servers that are not hosted on the same server as your web hosting. This happens to be rather common for many shared hosting web companies. In order to use GoDaddy's email with your domain you need to point your domain records to the correct addresses. Pointing to your domain is not the correct procedure as you will need to point your records to their email server which is secureserver.net.
I think I have read almost every thread on how terrible godaddy is and nobody can get the smtp settings to work. So my theory was to use gmail smtp server (because now it will send through your own [email protected]) I got that part set up and used as a test sent an email straight through gmail. And it comes from my [email protected] perfect. But I can not get the smtp settings inside oscommerce to connect with gmail. SO has anyone ever gotten osCommerce to send emails with smtp using goDaddys smtpout.secureserver.net or connected it to a gmail account successfully. If I could get either to work that would be great becuase this is basically the only thing stopping me from getting my store live.
I have the smtp auth contribution loaded in, I used the 28 sept 08 for google file. This was when I was trying to use the google workaround loop basically. But if i could just use the godaddy smtp server that would be nice.
Unfortunately I have a Windows not Linux Server, and I have tried almost every possible setting in the admin options. I did just recently look at the server info under admin--tools, and i saw that the php core has the smtp_out=relay-hosting.secureserver.net as opposed to smtpout.secureserver.net like Godaddy tells you to use. And i also see that the smtpport is set to 25, I am on Cox and I know that they block port 25. So is it possible to edit this file to port 80 or 3535, and then would my mail magically work?
This setting does not throw an error code, it says they are being delivered but they actually arent. Ports 25/3535, the other settings godaddy says to use, both throw socken connection refused errors.
The description of email working on only one side of the osCommerce based website general means the SMTP Auth email contribution was not installed correctly (usually the files were only installed on one side and not the other).
All incoming mail works fine, but absolutely can't send anything. I've gone through support at Godaddy - they can only provide the settings for their servers -- and searched the forums for resolution, but nothing is working!
I'm actually having this exact problem now and would love some help from "someone in the know." Email was funcioning just fine and suddenly stopped working two days ago. Nothing that I was aware of changed.
the search function in this forum is actually very usefull. this is the link to other threads on the same topic. also, i believe if you look in the iphone4 and other android device forums (droid X, etc) you will find that godaddy email accounts have caused issues for many users.
Thanks, I'll use the search function in the future it that is how the forum works. I am aware of the issues you speak of and document. I'm more in search of solutions, rather than seeking evidence that there is a problem. Hope that helps in understanding my intention behind posting.
besides the one guy who responded on march 6th, who doubted me and made some kind of odd/vailed comment about my phone number being available to the public ...... just give a call to verizon and/or godaddy and see if they've got an answer for you...........and enjoy your hour on the phone..........maybe even stop in a store and really confuse the crap out of one of the sales people..........they won't be able to help you.........but I believe I will....keep reading....
look....both companies are generally very good with their tech and customer support, but this particular issue has not been resolved by either of them and for what we pay on a monthly basis, i'd hope that, give the relatively common combined use of these platforms/companies, they would give it a better effort...........at the same time, i accpet this as part of using technology...
now for the good stuff.........i cannot take credit for this solution, but after some digging, i was able to find someone who really chased it down and after weeks of not being able to send godaddy emails from my droid incredible, it worked immediately..
make sure you've their standard server sets in place and then login to your godaddy email management control center, preferrably via your computer, and then click on the email address you want to use with your htc droid incredible....take note of the "relays" section..........if it says n/a or 0, just change it back to 250 and they try sending emails from your mobile...you should be good to go........don't ask me how.........or why............but everyone that had same issue i had............it worked immediately.....aloha
