Welcome to the Hussey Family Genealogy group on google. This is an open
forum for discussion about anything pertaining to researching the
family history of the Hussey clan of Newfoundland, especially those
originating at Salmon Cove (now South River).

I'll start by introducing myself with a few of my Hussey ancestors. My
great grandmother was Ruth Hussey Gardner b. 1873 at Camp Island
Labrador, d. 1955 at St. John's Newfoundland. Ruth was the youngest of
9 children born at Camp Island to Nathan Hussey b. 1825 at Salmon Cove
and Rachel Atkins. When Rachel died in 1899, Ruth and her brother,
Nathan, were the only two children to survive her.

Nathan b. 1857 at Camp Island is believed to be the father of Nathan b.
1884 at Bay Roberts. The older Nathan died in St. John's in 1927, the
younger Nathan is believed to have moved to Toronto sometime during the
1930's. He died there in 1969.

We'll soon be uploading family trees on ancestry.com which will be
accessible to anyone requesting permission. I hope you'll take
advantage of this forum to share info about your Hussey family and
collateral relatives as well as general info about the history of the
Hussey family and the times and places in which they lived.
