FRANCINE FOOT Statement of Interest
The old adage there is no “I” in team may at times be true but there
must be an “I” that takes responsibility for the team’s development
and continued success. If you want a strong leader who can effectively
maintain the level of excellence that IMCT has achieved and help raise
the standards for next year “I” am your candidate. We are a successful
team…I would venture to say the best on campus. But there are things
that can be improved. Throughout the school year I have gotten to know
more about this team and its needs. I have willingly volunteered my
time when possible and provided constructive feedback during team
moots. What I bring to this position is the ability to foster enduring
team spirit among members because I respect your time and can
appreciate your sacrifices. I understand the effort that each team
must commit in order to ensure that Howard is a serious contender at
the competitions we visit. I intend to make support of each team’s
competition my primary focus. I have experience (both academic and
sports related) with leading bright individuals that volunteer their
time and energies to achieve goals. Though our resources are not the
same as others, I know the level of talent is exceptional. It would be
an honor to serve as your team captain. Thank you.
TIFFANY GREEN- Statement of Interest - Captain
I am interested in leading our team as Captain for three reasons.
First, I am willing to commit time and energy to growing and
supporting the team. For example, I spent time helping the E-board run
the GTB this year, and learned the amount of time it takes to organize
the team around large tasks, such as selecting new members. I was
willing to dedicate the time to ensure the team had the best members
for next year. Second, I am organized and thorough. I pay attention to
details, which is essential for making sure the team is successfully
registered for all of its competitions next fall. Third, I am easy-
going, yet firm. I am pleasant to work with and respectful. Yet, when
teammates are not meeting their responsibilities, I am not afraid to
communicate what needs to be done and make expectations clear. These
skills are essential to help the team win more competitions. My goals
for helping the team improve include: (1) developing mentoring
relationships between alumni and individual competition teams; (2)
having an organization meeting with competition captains after teams
are assigned; and (3) opening the lines of communication between the E-
board and the new members to ensure that they understand everything
from competition selection to getting reimbursements when
they return. When I learned before coming here that HUSL has an
international moot court team, I made it my priority to make the team.
Allow me to use that same dedication as Captain next year.
ARSSY HAGOS- Statement of Interest - Captain
I am interested in a leadership position in IMCT for numerous
reasons. First of all I would like to use the momentum we have gained
this year with our success in all of the competitions to do even
better next year. I would like to improve team morale by most
importantly reaching out to the new members as soon as possible and
possibly holding a team orientation in late summer like the rest of
the moot court teams at Howard Law do. I have spoke to many of the new
members individually and they are very excited about making the team
and I would like them to keep their enthusiasm. This summer
orientation would foster team spirit as well as make them privy to the
different competitions we compete in so that they can seriously
consider where they would like to compete before having to submit
their preferences to Coach. Furthermore the in-class lectures by
Coach were very helpful for me in solidifying what was taught in
International Law by Professor Motala therefore if the new members can
begin to learn that material a little earlier it will help in brief
preparation especially for the early competitions such as the one held
in Miami. I would also like to be able to have a part in team
selection in addition to judging arguments and grading briefs so that
we always have an ample number of members on the team every year and
competitors are not stretched thin at competitions because of only a
couple of competitors being able to participate. Ideally the team
will always have the maximum number of oralists going to a competition
and a researcher.
As far as interactions with the HUSL administration goes I would like
to continue to lobby for our own office which exists but is not
available to the team. I recall having to sneak into empty classrooms
to practice moot with my teammates because we do not have access to
our office and that should not be the case. I have learned a lot about
myself over the past year as a result of being on this team and I
value my membership in this organization. My main priority is winning
competitions and learning from our experiences at our respective
competitions and I will work hard as a Captain or a President to help
further this team's success.
POSITION DESCRIPTIONS
Captain--primarily responsible for the team, specifically focuses on
the team members and competition teams. This person ensures team
schedules are made and followed. This person should be capable of
fostering collaboration and good team spirit. The Captain is supported
by the President and Vice President.
President--is primarily responsible for dealing with the
administration. This includes scheduling rooms, but mostly means this
person maintains contact with the deans and other campus
organizations. This position allows the Captain to focus on the team
internally because the President deals with IMCT within the law
school.
Vice President--In addition to supporting other positions, this person
is responsible for Alumni Relations and IMCT events. This should
include maintaining and creating an alumni database. Also, this
person would be primarily responsible for planning any IMCT event.
