For those judging tomorrow, meet on the GLevel of Holy Cross Hall.  We will let you know where to go (ie: what room you will be judging in).  Below, please find the compromis for the competition.  Please review them so that you can ask questions.

Best,

Naza

Good Morning All,

You have expressed an interest in participating in the 2011 Write On and Oral Competition for a chance to be a member of next year's International Moot Court Team. One change that has been made is that we will not be requiring the use of TWEN, instead I am attaching all the documents you will need for the competition in this email.

You will be required to email to this adress, huslim...@google.com , with your completed brief by 5pm on February 10- NO EXCEPTIONS. While there will be less problems submitting the briefs because we are not using TWEN, make sure you have the briefs sent before 5pm to be considered for the competition.

The second part of the competition will happen from 10am- 5pm on campus on Saturday, February 12- and EVERYONE MUST COMPETE in both rounds. You will later be assigned a time for when you will be doing your moot.

As many of you have not been exposed to international law and its sources, the team will be holding an informational session to help explain the background to international law, its major treaties, how to interprete the fact pattern and international treaties. This meeting will be held  Thursday, February 3rd at 12:15 in one of the library study rooms- you can ask all your questions about the write-on during that time.

Attached to this email are the rules for the competition, the compromis (fact pattern), and a sample brief from last year's write-on competition which you can use as a template for your own briefs' formatting. Read the rules VERY CAREFULLY before starting research and writing.

You will only have to write your brief for ONE SIDE, and the number you are assigned corresponds to the side you will be writing for and arguing for at the oral competition. Below you will find a list of all the individuals who expressed an interest in the competion and thier corresponding competition number. ONLY USE YOUR COMPETITION NUMBER, NEVER YOUR NAME, WHEN YOU SUBMIT YOUR BRIEFS.

Good morning All,

Sorry for the late notice, but please arrive by 15-20 minutes before you are scheduled to judge.  The competitors have all be told that their moot times are the times that they will begin arguing, not the time that they should arrive.  It would be good if we were not only there on time, but possibly a little earlier to be sure we are set up and ready to go.

I just realized that you received the competitor's list at the bottom of this email. You may not have noticed, in which case I just called attention to it.  I know I am saying something you are probably know already, but it bears repeating.  We ask you to refrain from matching the competition numbers with the competitors names to know whose briefs you are grading.  Remember that the briefs you received are supposed to be graded blindly.  It's really important to maintain the integrity of the process, and thereby the integrity of the team!  I have had to spend some time assuring a skeptical competitor that we have a blind grading process, and I don't want to have mislead anyone.

Thanks for coming out on a Sunday to do the mooting! Naza and I really appreciate the help.

Best,
Tiffany
