I downloaded, installed, and launched the app. The Hulu ads are as
loud as ever. What's the next step here?

Which version of OS X are you using? 10.6?

Are you watching Hulu through a web browser?

OK I just updated Hush to work on OS X Lion. Please download the
latest version (1.2) and let me know if it's working.
