Thank you Felix for taking up this challege. It is very timely. This
will also help others who are going to work on permanent shelters

We need to design the structures according to the code of practice. As
I understand there is no building code in haiti. Which code of
practice, should we refer to? The nearest one is California Building
Code or International Residential Code (IRC, 2003 or later version)

Thank you

Laxman

Hello Laxman,

Thanks for our reply. Indeed, seems Haiti never imposed building
codes. Strange idea isn't it?
We do have some guidance for wind load and seismic activity from the
Caribbean standards. have alredy shared them with Thomas.
I think we should be practical and try to achieve some quality
standard. If we come up with American supplier, it should meet the
American codes including the resilience to a hurricane category 2 (or
maybe even 3)

When can we expect you in Haiti? I wil return to KL in 10 April.

Have you noticed the 2nd shelter position in KL? Would the Canadian RC
be interested and compete with the Australian and Spanish RC who are
dumping shelters delegates every where? The Asia Pacific Zone is
already dominated by the Australians and would welcome some
opposition! hahahaha

Regards,
Felix
