to Hurricane shelters in emergencies
I am interested in helping with the review of building types for
Haiti. I am the owner of a company so in part I am looking to be
involved on a prospecting for work level. However with 30 years of
construction experience, having built thousands of homes and millions
of dollars of commercial construction I would like to offer my
personal time to what ever I can lend a hand looking into for you.
Sincerely,
Kent

Dear Mr Kent,

Many thanks indeed for your kind offer. As the shelter cluster coordination group, we do not implement shelter, instead we work towards ensuring that the responding organisations work together to meet the needs of the Haitian people. We suggest that you contact individual implementing organisations with your offer. On the website below mentioned you will find a contact list.

Before doing so we would like to invite you to visit http://www.shelterhaiti.org for more on the shelter strategy and agreed technical standards here in Haiti. Also keep in mind that this is actually the emergency shelter cluster, which is focussed on emergency response and intermediate shelter provision (i.e. transitional shelter). For permanent housing and reconstruction please contact the Early recovery cluster and UNhabitat.

with very best regards,

Jeroen Quanjer

Jeroen,
Thank you for your response.  I have been reviewing the shelterhaiti web site that is why I decided I needed to participate on a level that was beyond just being a supplier.  If there is something I can help with from afar please let me know.

One thought that may be of use is on the containers being considered for use as housing.  We just bid a tender that would require a hundred or so containers be shipped to Haiti.  We could load your used containers.  This way there would be no shipping cost for you (probably something already considered).  I am sure almost any company would be happy to help out in similar ways.  As for my company we would also be able to do a number of retrofits before the containers were loaded and shipped.

Anyway thank you for the leads and please keep me in mind if you should find a need.
Kent
