Thousands of Florida home owners could lose their home insurance if
their roofs are too old or currently have any damage. <a href="http://

inspection for around $80.
Citizens Property Insurance Corp has notified customers that their
home insurance policies would not be renewed without a roof inspection
or proof of a new roof being installed. Citizens is the state of
Florida backed insurance company of last resort for owners of homes
who cannot find a private insurance company to write them.
We are afraid that some home owners may wait until the last minute and
get stuck without the needed insurance coverage. Once a hurricane
comes, it could be difficult to find an inspector in time to complete
the necessary inspection in time to get insurance.
In connection with this new requirement, Citizens is canceling
policies unless the roof is in good condition. The roof age and
condition requirement is mandatory for homes 25 years of age and older
shingle roofs. It is also mandatory for homes that are 50 years of age
and older with other types of roofs, including tile.
Not just anyone can perform an inspection. Citizens requires the roof
inspections be done by a Florida licensed general, residential,
building or roofing contractor; a licensed building inspector; a
registered architect; a registered engineer; or a city or a county
building code official.
The inspection can be done by <a href="http://
