this is copied from our google group welcome -- but I think it is very
descriptive of who we are and what we are trying to accomplish. :)

We are the Tennessee Valley Crafters -- a group for all artists and
crafters in the Tennessee Valley region who sell their work, either
locally or online. Please note that while you don't have to be a full-
time artist or crafter to join, we are limiting the group for people
who specifically produce handmade arts and crafts for sale (even if it
is only 'hobby income'). Membership is otherwise completely open, no
matter what medium you work in!
Right now most of our members are from Huntsville, but we are open to
anyone in the TN Valley region (north AL or south TN).

We intend to combine local Etsy.com sellers with other local crafters
who rely mainly on arts and craft shows or their own studio or website
to promote their work. This group has the possibility to be really
beneficial to all parties involved, to be able to cross promote, help
each other in the local arts and crafts scene, learn tips and
techniques of our trade, and of course to make new friends and have
fun!

So far, we have our google group (http://groups.google.com/group/
tennessee-valley-crafters), a calendar (http://www.google.com/calendar/
embed?src=tnvalleycrafters%40gmail.com&ctz=America/Chicago) , and,
more importantly, a blog! (http://tnvalleycrafters.blogspot.com/)

Anyone (even non-members) may post events to the calendar, as long as
it is local to the TN valley region and involves arts or crafts.

The TN Valley Crafters blog is the public face of our group -- a place
where we highlight our members, show general tutorials and techniques,
and muse about arts, crafts, and life in general.

Please note that you *must* join the google groups to be considered a
member! Otherwise we have no way of keeping a contact list, a roster,
etc. You can edit how often you receive emails (if at all) under the
"edit my membership" link. Also, please see the "Beginning Guide to
TN Valley Crafters" page, fill out the short profile information, and
email it to tnvalleycrafters [!at] gmail.com. This information will
be on our public, group blog.

Thank you for your time! I also am planning on posting this on the
Huntsville Art Blog -- my apologizes if you see this more than once.
