Hey guys,
I hope everyone has been enjoying their 2012 so far. The weather is warming up and that means summer league is fast approaching!! In 2012 the Huntington Ultimate Summer League will be returning in full force and promises to be a blast for all involved. We are very excited for this coming summer, to be reunited with old friends and to make new ones. Also this year, HUSL will be undergoing some restructuring; we will be creating a new division for the league!
This summer there will be a mixed division AND a men's division. We are anticipating 4 teams in each division but there is room to grow if there is enough registrations. The goal for this change is to create a more authentic mixed environment while also addressing the exponential increase in male players. Our hope is that by adding the men's division, the mixed division will be able to exhibit true 'mixed' games (4:3 male to female format). This will allow for more fair and even games as well as allowing teams to have enough female players to field a full team. The amount of male players in the mixed division will be dependent on the amount of female players that register. Therefore we will be instituting a cap on male registrants for the mixed division. Once the cap is reached, all male players that register for the mixed division will be waitlisted. All waitlisted players will have a spot guaranteed in the men's division. If spots in the mixed division open up, the waitlisted players will have the option of which division they would like to play in. Rest assured, everyone that signs up for HUSL will have a spot on a team in HUSL!
The first day of HUSL 2012 will be Sunday May 20th at 3pm at Huntington High School. This is our annual pick-up and welcome where we introduce the captains, administrators of the league, and more importantly everyone gets their first chance to meet the league. This is a very fun, informal, but important day. Starting Tuesday May 22nd at 6:00pm we will be hosting HUSL 2012's first weekly clinic. The following weekend is Memorial Day Weekend therefore we will hold open pick-up in place of games. Another clinic will be held that Tuesday May 29th and the first official game will be held on Thursday May 31st at 6:30pm. Games will then be held every Thursday and Sunday through June, July, and the first week of August. The summer will be capped off with a Championship Tournament that will take place on August 5th. As of right now all HUSL events will take place at Huntington High School. You can check the website for directions.
Registration is now OPEN! WOO HOO!!! Please go to our webpage (http://www.husl.usetopscore.com/leagues) to register for the best summer yet. Registration will close May 6th. Once registration closes we will not be accepting any other entrants to the league. We really mean it this time. This year registration is $40. What does this get you? 18 games, a championship tournament, a league summer party, and a sweet 5Ultimate jersey. On the registration form there is an option to 'baggage' with someone. If there is someone you would like to play with (ie. best bud, car pool buddy, significant other, secret crush, the other half of your bromance, etc.) you may select them as your baggage and you two will be placed on the same team. If you select someone as your baggage make sure they put your name as their baggage. Important note to be taken, if you are registering for the mixed division your baggage is not guaranteed a spot with you until they register and are accepted into the mixed division. For example, if Cornelius reads this email, registers for the mixed division, lists Balthazar as his baggage, and pays his dues Cornelius has his spot secured. If Balthazar is lazy and doesn't register in a timely manner he may be waitlisted for the mixed division and possibly not be able to play with his buddy Corny. So the point is, if you want your baggage to play with you make sure they register in a timely manner.
We are truly pumped for this summer and are equally excited to celebrate HUSL's 5th birthday. If you can't wait for the summer to play ultimate, come out to pick-up at the Huntington Young Men's Christian Association every Tuesday at 8pm. Until then Register and be well. We look forward to seeing everyone in May!!!
