Hey all,
There are some exciting things coming along for Long Island ultimate. We now have a new website that is more up to date, better functions, and a new look! Feel free to check it out and create your own profile as a player to make registrations for future events easier! It is still a work in progress, if you notice any errors or trouble navigating the site, feel free to email us at
husl.u...@gmail.com with any questions or concerns. If you have any ideas or suggestions for the website, also feel free to let us know.
Last year we hosted a hat tournament the day after Thanksgiving and it was a huge success. This year we will be hosting it for the 2nd year and will be naming it the Project Pat Memorial Hat Tournament to honor Patrick McCourt himself. Details on the tournament are to come but please keep the date (November 25th) open for the tournament. Registration is now open, it will be $15 for the tournament. We will also be selling wristbands and sweatbands with Patrick's name on them as well. Funds from the tournament and all wristbands and sweatbands will be used to make a donation to the scholarship fund set in Patrick's name. More details about the tournament will be announced as soon as they are official (location, food, time, t-shirts, etc). To register please go to the website and click on the tournament link.
Pick-up at the YMCA has been underway, if you are available you should come out Wednesday nights (occasionally Tuesdays depending on weather) for some great pick-up. The cost is $6 per night to cover for the lights.
As the seasons change and the weather gets colder we will also be starting indoor sessions at St. Anthony's again this year. We will be playing on Tuesday nights. Stay tuned for more info as that draws closer.
Next Summer HUSL will be making a big change in the league. In fact, there will now be two leagues. That's right, we are now splitting up HUSL into a mixed division and a men's division. In the past we have felt that woman players have suffered due to the very unbalanced ratio of male to female players and causing the rosters to be thin on women players. We are hoping to continue to have an increase in registrations this year but to make a more suitable playing atmosphere for everyone we have decided to make the split. There will be now more women players per a team and less male players. Now, we have had a large increase in male registrations and to make sure we give as many players as possible a fun summer filled with Long Island ultimate, we have decided to also start a men's league. All wait listed players for the mixed division will be placed in the men's league. We believe this will help create a better playing experience for all parties. The unfortunate side to this is that no one will be able to play in both divisions. Sorry, no double dipping.
I hope everyone is just as excited for the changes to come to ultimate on Long Island as we all are. Get pumped! Come out to pick-up and play! Register on our new site and sign up for the hat tournament!
