Mother's Day High-Tea & Afternoon at the Opera

You are invited to enjoy A special Mother's Day opera performance and high-tea joint fundraiser for Amore Opera and The Hungarian House of New York. The program will include a Tribute to Opera Mothers paired with Operetta Favorites. We will have arias and duets from The Magic Flute, Trovatore, Cavalleria rusticana, Carmen, and Madama Butterfly. On the operetta side, we have pieces lined up by Kálmán, Lehár, Johann Strauss, and Offenbach. This event promises to honor the spirit of motherhood, help bring the much-anticipated "Madama Butterfly" to the stage of Amore Opera, and to help spread the beauty of Hungarian culture. (event will be multilingual, including Hungarian, English, Italian, and German.)

For every donated used sneaker, the Hungarian House will receive much needed funds for the maintenance of our cherished community and cultural center. Before you toss your used sneakers in the trash, set it aside and bring it by our deposit box.

Krisztina Toth, the writer of the acclaimed book Aquarium (Akvárium) and The Bat (Denevér) will have the new English translation of her play, made by Szilvia Naray-Davey, staged by Ildikó Németh of the New Stage Theatre Company. This is a very special collaboration with the Rehearsal for Truth Theater Festival honoring Vaclav Havel, the Vaclav Havel Library Foundation, and Bohemian Benevolent Literary Association.

(event will be held in English, Hungarian will also be spoken.)

Secular Hungarian Jewish Architects and Architecture

Join us on an enlightening discovery of art-deco design and architectural ingenuity by secular Jewish architects from Hungary, as presented by expert and professional humorist Barry Goldsmith. He will uncover aspects of history often overlooked by the most avid experts in the field and even locals in the know. Barry has made similar presentations in the past to filled rooms and thoroughly engaged audiences at the 92stY and Temple Emanuel.
