Hi I want to write about something that I liked a lot in my childhood. and that is Saint Seiya ( Los caballeros del zodiaco in spanish) was a Japanese cartoon or "anime" that went around which was broadcasted sometime around 1996 in Mxico. I want to start from the beginning , the first time I saw something about Saint Seiya was on some little cards that were included in some cookies that I used to buy in my school. We all All of the children in the school liked the look of this cartoon, the design of the characters was something different from what we were used to, and that means american cartoons, the really good ones, Tom and Jerry, He Man, Bravestar,Thundercats,Batman the animated series, etc. But Unfortunately there was no transmision of Saint Seiya here in Tijuana, so the only thing we knew about the series was from the cards that I must say they were in 3D. So after a couple of months, as I was changing the channels of on the tv I found 2 new channels and one of them had a lot of cartoons from 12:00 pm to 5:00pm. They all were japanese cartoons. For me it was something new and exciting but the surprise was bigger when I found out that the last one was Saint Seiya. From that point I never missed a chapter. Luckily when I started to watch it , it was only like the fourth episode. So what is Saint Seiya cartoon about? It is about a group of warriors called Saints (In spanish it was translated to Knights , due to religions religious issues that the word saint might have caused) that are reincarnated into humans every after hundreds of years to protect the earth again (You can say "after hundreds of years" or "every hundred years"-different meanings). These saints must had to defend their leader, the goddess, Athena who is was supossed to live in the sanctuary which was located in Greece. A series of events caused that one of the Saints to betrayed the leader of the sanctuary and tried to kill the baby, Athena. One of the saints, the most loyal Aioros arrived at the last momment and sacrificed his life to save Athena. At that momment an old rich man that was touring in Greece, walking in the ruins, found the saint, Aioros bleeding to death. and Aioros gave him the baby and his golden clothes , the clothes of Capricorn. Aioros told the old man about the Sanctuary and asked him to take care of the baby Athena and to also train new saints to confront the now corrupted Sanctuary in the future. The old man was the owner of the Kido foundation so he took and raised a group of orphan kids, whom he sent them to different locations to be trained and become true saints.
They wear the 12 Gold Cloths that correspond to the zodiac constellations, the most powerful among the 88 Cloths. The Gold Saints have mastered the seventh sense, the essence of their cosmos, which grants them miraculous abilities, among them, the capacity of attaining the speed of light.
They are known for wearing Gold Cloths and are among the most powerful characters in the series. Move at the speed of light and completely dominate the seventh sense, while a few of them are so powerful to have reached the eighth sense, arayashiki. They are protected by the twelve zodiac constellations. Not only the power of the Gold Saints is superior to all other saints, but also their notions of honesty, ethics and righteousness, and are therefore very respected by the people of the Sanctuary. When the twelve gold cloths are or are near one another, they shine and produce very loud sounds, like ringing or almost a twinkling sound. This phenomenon is called resonance. If the golden saints with two equivalent forces waging a struggle, the battle is so fierce, that ends up lasting forever (Thousand Days War).
The gold saints dominate a legendary technique known as Athena Exclamation, where three of them combine their cosmos and fire it at once. This power is so gigantic that it releases an energy similar to the explosion that gave birth to the universe, the Big Bang. When two Athena Exclamation blasts collide, they will not only double or multiply, but increase infinitely. Athena banned this technique because it can cause a terrible damage. The ones who use this technique are regarded as barbaric, horrible, and dishonored saints. The Athena Exclamation is used by Sagittarius Sisyphos, Aries Shion and Leo Regulus to destroy the gate to the Lost Canvas.
However, the most powerful and destructive technique of that class of knights is the Golden Sun Ray or "Sacrifice of the Gold Saints". In it, the twelve gold saints raise their cosmos and release an energy from the Gold Cloths which is as strong and bright as the sun. All who come in contact with this energy, including the saints themselves with gold cloths, die. The Libra Cloth has six pairs of golden arms that can be used only in exceptional cases and with the consent of the Libra Saint. The pair of arms are: Tonfa, Spear, Sword, Shield, Three-section staff and nunchaku.
These films were never released in the U.S until it was announced by Discotek Media in 2012 that they had acquired the rights to the first four movies in a two disc set. The DVDs contain the original Japanese audio track with English subtitles.[6]
When Seiya, Hyōga and Shun visit Saori (Athena) at the orphanage, they meet an employee called Eri. An orphan herself, Eri takes a liking to Hyōga and one night they sit outside watching the stars. They see a shooting star and Hyōga asks Eri to make a wish. After Hyōga leaves, however, Eri becomes powerfully attracted to the shooting star and wanders alone into the woods, where she finds a golden apple. She is then possessed by Eris, the Goddess of Discord, and kidnaps Athena, planning to use the golden apple to suck her energy out, fully reincarnate and take over the world. Eris leaves a message for the Bronze Saints, who set out for the goddess's temple which appears on the mountains. There, the heroes fight the five Ghost Saints: Sagitta Maya, Lyra Orpheus, Southern Cross Khrists, Scutum Jan and Orion Jger.
In Siberia, Hyōga saves a man that is being attacked. Injured, the man manages only to say something about Asgard. Some days later, Saori, Seiya, Shiryū and Shun are wondering about Hyōga and decide to go to Asgard to investigate. At Valhalla, the Lord of Asgard, Durbal, says he has not heard of any Hyōga and neither has his right hand, Loki. However, at all times Seiya and the others can feel an evil cosmo emanating from Loki and the other Odin Saints called God Warriors. Shiryū, in particular, notices a familiar cosmo coming from Midgard, a mysterious, masked God Warrior. Durbal makes it clear that he is trying to take control of both Asgard and the Sanctuary, imprisoning Athena in a strange dimension within the giant statue of Odin. Midgard reveals himself as Hyōga and tries to kill Shiryū to prove himself to Durbal. Thus, it is the task of the Bronze Saints to defeat Durbal and his God Warriors (Loki, Ullr and Hrung), to save Athena and Hyōga.
Unlike the other Saint Seiya movies made in the 1980s, this one was a full featured film, having a running time of 75 minutes. The events occur sometime after the Poseidon saga and before the Fallen Angels saga (4th movie).
Lucifer, a fallen angel who was a child of God but was condemned to hell for his ambitions, has risen to the present day and began to spread disasters around the world. Athena sacrifices herself to save the earth and heads alone to the Fushima Hall, where Lucifer is waiting. Upon learning of this, Seiya and the other Bronze Knights follow Saori to the Fushima Hall, but in front of them are four Holy Hell Angels (Beelzebub, Astaroth, Eligor and Moa) powerful enemies who have also defeated the Golden Saints. A fierce battle begins for the future of the earth and the fate of the entire universe.
Injured after his confrontation with Hades, Seiya is in a wheelchair and vegetative state under Saori's care. The Goddess Artemis, Saori's older sister, comes to Earth and strikes a bargain with her. In return for restoring Seiya's mind and body, she will take control over Sanctuary. Now Seiya and his fellow Bronze saints must fight Zeus and his Angels to restore their homeland. Hoping that it may bring peace on Earth, Saori goes to the Sanctuary and starts spilling her blood. Upon invading the Sanctuary, the Bronze Saints learn that Athena was banished by Artemis and decide to fight the moon goddess in order to rescue their true goddess and free the Earth from Artemis's ominous control.
The movie focuses mostly on Seiya and Athena, as the other Bronze Saints are not seen as much; they only appear during their respective fights with the other Angels, and briefly towards the end. However, Eagle Marin also appears, as Ophiuchus Shaina, Unicorn Jabu, and Hydra Ichi do, though the latter three are just cameos.
The movie also has a very ambiguous ending, with many plot points and danglers unresolved with rushed out animation. Also many omissions from the original script were made such as: Seiya's cloth early in the film; Seika's appearance and crucial important role diminished; two more Angel opponents for other Saints to fight; the Libra Cloth box was supposed to be in the film at one time.
Saori Kido, a teenager with strange powers who was raised by Mitsumasa Kido, pretending to be her grandfather. As she heads to the airport with her butler Tokumaru Tatsumi, she learns from him that she is Athena's reincarnation and what fate awaits her. It is then that she is attacked by Saints. But Seiya, accompanied by Shiryu, Hyoga and Shun intervene to save her. A few hours later, Aiolia, Aioros' brother, confronts Seiya and his companions. After recovering Aiolos' armor, he invites them to meet the Pope with Saori. She and her four saints are joined by Shun's brother Ikki. They invade the sanctuary. But time is running out: before leaving, Saori was hit in the chest by a knight sent by the Pope. A mysterious evil makes her suffer and slowly ends her life span. Seiya, Shiryu, Hyoga, Shun and Ikki must then go through the houses of the twelve Gold Saints to access the Pope's room so that Saori's life is saved and that she officially becomes Athena.
