1) Can u run Samba on Unix,,I downlaoded and followed the instructions but
get errors during ./configure so I must be screwiing something up,,right?
2) Is there a better way of doing files sharing, etc from the Sol box->my MS
network?
3) How do I get it to "join" the doain IF we can get samba to work,,,,I know
in Linux smpasswd -j "domain" -r "nameserver" worked great on Linux,,and
have smb.conf I can edit once samba is "in" solaris,,
I have a ton more to learn and will be posting to these groups often I am
betting, but will start with that so as not to be askiing for too much at
once ;-)
Thanks for your help and patience in advance!! And if you have any MS
related things, shoot em my way, I can probably help there,,,
Jimi
with regards to your questions, ive never used Solaris, im getting a sun
blade in a cpl of months because i want to run a Solaris box, as opposed to
Linux, but i have got Samba working on Irix 6.5 and even got my SGI box on
my windows domain, so my answers may not be accurate.
1) Yeah samba seems to run on most flavours of *NIX
2) MS offer tools for unix where you can use NFS on windows either as a
Client, Server or as a kinda go between, this will allow you to share files
via *NIX and Windows.
3) it explains in the samba how to how to join a domain, i followed it and
worked 1st time, you just need to add the host name of your solaris box to
your windows domain and then edit your smb.conf file with the domain info,
PDC etc, just look it up on the how to and all the info you need is there.
Hope this is of some help.
