MARTIAL ARTS SCHOOL LANDS ON FEET & BACK TO SAME OLD KICKS
Only 3 Months After Nearly Losing School, Instructor Hosts Free THANKSGIVING For Community
HUMBLE SCHOOL OF MARTIAL ARTS / ANNUAL THANKSGIVING FEAST
Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza / 1368 Fulton Street
Community Room 2 / Brooklyn, NY 11216
Thanksgiving Day / +November 28, 2013
This +Thursday, Humble School of Martial Arts hosts its Annual Thanksgiving Feast at Bedford Stuyvesant Restoration Plaza. All are welcome to attend and admission is free. The school’s founding instructor, Chief Master Sabu Lewis, is celebrating the school’s victory over a 200% rent-hike - that virtually left the martial arts studio homeless this fall - by doing what he does best: serving the community.
Forced out of its Clinton Hill location this past summer, an upwelling of community, political and media support helped Humble School of Martial Arts raise the awareness and finances necessary to relocate and reestablish themselves. Long known for its active presence in the neighborhood - particularly its annual Thanksgiving celebrations - Humble School isn’t wasting any time living up to their reputation as pillars of the community. When some suggested they spend more time settling into the new location and skip the Thanksgiving affair this year, Chief Master Sabu responded, “This is one of the most important parts of settling in. We’re a community institution and its our responsibility to serve. We’re grateful for our new home and the support that helped us into it. This is the season for gratitude and sharing those things for which you’re thankful. It’s not something you skip”
Invited guests include a host of local pols who were supportive of the martial arts studios relocation efforts, including Assemblyman Karim Camara (who presented Chief Master Sabu with a NYS Assembly citation on +August 24th for Sabu’s “tireless work as a positive role model to children”), Assemblyman Walter T. Mosley (whose son attends Humble School of Martial Arts), and Public Advocate Letitia “Tish” James.
Humble School of Martial Arts is located at 1406 Fulton Street - Bed Stuy Restoration Plaza - Brooklyn, NY 11216. Their Annual Thanksgiving Feast will be held just a few doors down at 1368 Fulton Street - Bed Stuy Restoration Plaza - Community Room 2. Doors open +at 12PM. All are welcome. Admission is FREE.
