Dear Friends
Please send this letter or in your own words on behalf of Palestinian activist Ramy Shaath, who is facing deportation from France. His case is a little complicated. He was imprisoned in Egypt for three years and now lives in France with his wife, a French citizen, and child. He was made to give up his Egyptian nationality upon release and now holds only a Palestinian passport.
He is accused of being a “serious threat to public order” by the Nanterre prefecture, which cites links to figures of the Palestinian cause, references to Israel’s criminal occupation of Gaza and support for a one-state solution.
Ramy Shaath was prominent in the Arab Spring uprisings and a co-founder of the Egyptian chapter of the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement, which advocates, boycotts, divestment, and sanctions in support of the rights of Palestinians. If he is forced to return to Palestine, he says he’ll be targeted by the Israeli government. He also fears he might be sent to a third country, Thanks! Tilly & Guy

Dear President Macron,
I’m deeply concerned that Palestinian/Egyptian activist Ramy Shaath may soon be deported.
I strongly urge you to halt the deportation proceedings in line with France’s international human rights obligations, including the principle of non-refoulement, which prohibits states from transferring people to a place where they would face a real risk of serious human rights violations. I also ask you to ensure that he remains in France with a secure legal status,
Sincerely
