23^rd March, 1977 was the day when the Emergency was lifted by Indira Gandhi’s government bowing to the force of people’s movement and democratic forces who vehemently opposed the imposition of Emergency on 26^th June, 1975. Sh. Jayaprakash Narayan, was the key architects of the people’s movement against the dictatorial regime. Hence 23^rd March every year is celebrated as JPMemorial day.

Dear Kiran,

According to Wikipedia The 6th Lok Sabha, ran from 23 March 1977 - 22 August 1979 and it was elected in the elections that were held between February and March 1977. Ms Gandhi lifted the emergency on the 23rd, after losing .
