The Goon Show Depository
Ahhh, the halcyon days before the advent of Political Correctness and
alternative humour. The days when if it was funny then the joke was
performed. The class system that really counted, ie those who got it
and those who didn't!
The Goon Show was the first real "Alternative Humour". It was truly
different from the normal Music Hall type comedy that was recycled for
British radio. It didn't pander to the naiveté that inflicted the
funny bones of post war Britain. This was truly cerebral humour in
it's truest sense. After all, the imagery of the crazy situations had
to be present in the listener's mind before the humour struck home.
The Goon Show was a revelation to all the latent eccentrics who
populated the UK. Goon Show humour bridged political persuasion, the
British class system. Academics, white-collar workers, blue-collar
workers and even those just wearing vests all shared in the crazy,
zany antics of Bluebottle, Eccles and Neddie et al.
I have been a fan of the Goon Shows for as long as I can remember.
Certainly since the mid 60's when my father used to play recordings of
them to myself and my brother. More recently I have renewed my
interest, allied with the advent of new technology, i.e. MP3
compressed audio. I am now setting out on an adventure to encode every
episode of the Goons that I can get my hands on. I then want to make
these files available to anyone who wants them!
These pages are my tribute to Spike Milligan, Peter Sellers, Harry
Secombe, Wallace Greenslade and all the other individuals who
contributed to the making of the series.
Over the years I have also started to appreciate the wonders of the
world of British Radio Comedy of the 50s, 60s and 70s, as a result
this website has started to expand into an information source for
other comedy classics.

This site is in real need of some spring cleaning - I haven't had the
time myself recently, so this is a plea to all Goon fans, send in your
news regarding the show, heads-ups from around the globe, and any
articles you have about the series or the stars, and they will be
considered for inclusion.
This is not a blatant attempt to get someone else to write all the
material (honest) but a serious quest to keep the Goon Show fan
community informed of latest happenings and releases.
