Dear Colleagues--

I'm leaving this weekend on a long-overdue family vacation to visit
relatives and friends in Europe and will be gone until the 8th of
September. I am travelling without laptop (gasp) and without data
roaming on my Android phone (double gasp), but may occasionally check
e-mail with my iPad when/if WIFI is available (sigh). I don't plan to
respond to any but the most urgent and lifesaving of messages until
after I return (but will make sure that the GSOC evaluation gets filled
out on time).

Fran Boon and David Bitner and Gavin Treadgold - all members of this
group - are coordinating our response to the Pakistan flood disaster,
which is starting out really well with good coordination and support
from Crisis Commons, as well as an active volunteer user community in
Pakistan eager to take advantage of Sahana's capabilities.

I'm hoping that we can pick up our discussions around the humanitarian
foss code of conduct and try to bring that draft to a state where we can
sign on to it as organizations (and individuals) in early September. I
know that there is also exciting progress with the Exercise 24 planning
that Luke can update us on.

Best regards,
Mark

Hey everyone,

I have attached the Executive Summary for Exercise 24. We now are looking at an expanding cross-border exercise with actual people to be deployed on the ground on September 24 and September 25.

There will be "citizens", military personnel, animal and human public health specialists, red cross workers, and emergency management specialists collaborating on both sides of the border.

As technologists, there is great opportunity here to actually work on integrating various toolsets and pieces of software. For example, there has already been discussion about Sahana, Ushahidi, and OSM integrations.

More to come soon, but if you are interested in playing [playing can mean just watching things evolve, sharing some information here and there, or working and collaborating for the full two days], please make sure that you are signed up in InRelief (the overall coordination tool chosen by SDSU for the exercise).

Many thanks,
-Luke
