Human Ecology @ESA members:
It is time to endorse symposium proposals- the list of symposia requesting
this are below, details attached. In my opinion, we would be mad not to
endorse Rob Jackson's symposium as we are trying to cross integrate with
that one - and it is far and away the strongest (IMHO) although I say that
because it looks very much like ours.

We are entitled to two endorsements.

Please email the list with:
1) any objections to endorsing Rob Jackson's symposium.
2) the name of the other proposal you think would be our best choice.

Titles are:
1.Planetary stewardship: Defining the scientific challenges and
opportunities Organizer and Moderator: Robert B. Jackson, ESA Vice President
for Science
2. Hal Balbach (official Applied Ecology Section symposium?) How We Manage
Our Share of Planet Earth
3. What is Natural? A Long-Term View of the Ecosystems of the Americas Mark
Bush (paleoecology)
4. Revolutionary Ecology II: Defining and Conducting Stewardship and Action
as Ecologists and Global Citizens
5. Building a Global Sense of Place, Responsibility and Stewardship (a sort
of TEK - Mimi Lam involved)

Cheers
Rob

I think they all look good, but maybe the best fit with Human Ecology is #3: "What is Natural? A Long-Term View of the Ecosystems of the Americas"

#3 appeals the most to me as well -- a larger-scale grounding, spatially and temporally, that many of us lack.  It would nicely complement our other choice.

Hi all,

I'm also in the paleoecology session (and am one of the speakers listed in the symposium, to fully disclose!), and I suggested that the Paleoecology Section seek the endorsement, in part to network communities that have a lot to offer one another but who rarely have the opportunity to interact. Obviously I'm biased, but I also agree that it would complement the other choice and diversify our involvement.

Cheers,

Jacquelyn
