What Coding Agents Mean for Research (and How to Use Them)

AI coding agents are LLMs that can write, edit, and execute code autonomously. In this talk I will demo several projects that have been greately accelerated using the most popular agent, Claude Code (creating an R package, website, LLM audit studies, etc.); talk through other use cases I've found helpful; and share practical guidance on planning, validation, and avoiding common pitfalls. I will also discuss some of the broader implications for the discipline, including a recent spike in preprint submissions and what agents may mean for peer review, graduate training, and hiring.
