Hello,

I'm a beginner to Hugin so please don't bite if it's a stupid
question.

I'm 99% finished on the panorama I'm working on.

But the "3. Create Panorama" and "Stitch" buttons aren't doing
anything (I forgot which one you use to finish a project, but neither
of them work so it doesn't matter to me right now).

The save dialog comes up, and I type in the name, but when I click
"Save" nothing happens.

Only once have I gotten an error message: "Failed to create connection
to server 'PTBatcherGUI-Brian' on topic 'BatchStart': a client's
attempt to establish a conversation has failed". I have no idea what
this means...

Every other time it just does nothing. No processing of any sorts, no
files saved, no error messages, just nothing.

I've used Hugin once before, and everything went normally. I did the
same steps as before, control points, alignment etc. and I can't think
of anything I might've missed out. According to the help file, and
some online tutorials, I've done every step I need to do.

So why is this happening? I tried restarting Hugin, restarting the
computer, different stitch settings, saving in different drives and
trying different filenames to no effect.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Hi Brian,

you could send your pto file and tell us what version of hugin and system you are using.

Cheers,

Hugin installs another tool called 'Hugin Batch Processor'
(PTBatcherGUI) that manages the actual stitching, it seems that this
tool has vanished or the communication isn't working properly.

1. Please try and display the Batch Processor from the Hugin menu
and tell us what you see: Hugin -> File -> Run Batch Processor (it
may be minimised to the system 'tray').

2. If you can get it to display, keep it open and try to do the
stitch from Hugin again - What do you see? (you should get some
activity in the Batch Processor window).

Hi Carlos,

I've uploaded my .pto file to http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1516432/Other%20stuff%20to%20show%20people/00-01-05-04.pto

There's also a .pto.mk file, should I upload that as well?

I'm using Hugin version 2011.2.0.3d9649aa241a and Windows 7.

1. The "Hugin Batch Processor" icon comes up on the lower-right
section (not sure if that's the thing called the system tray). No
window comes up. Clicking on the icon does nothing. After about 20
seconds, the icon disappears.

PTBatcher is used to queue & run jobs to produce the actual output.
It sounds like Hugin cannot find the executables, you might try re-
installing it. You should have ptbatcher.exe & ptbatchergui.exe in
the bin directory (if using this on Windows, I'm not sure if this
would be different on another OS).

Hi Spencer,

Both of those programs are there. I re-installed anyway, and the
problem still exists.

If you are running the latest Hugin on a PPC in OSX 10.5.8 you get
exactly the same symptom you describe, "The save dialog comes up, and
I type in the name, but when I click "Save" nothing happens." This
happens on the first stitch or in other words when PTBatcherGUI is
invoked for the first time by Hugin. Something actually has happened.
There is an error dialog referring to the non existing linefind
control point finder sitting behind the Hugin window waiting for you
to press the OK button. The stitch will proceed after you press the
OK. The error message does not show up again for subsequent stitches
as long as PTBatcherGUI is open. Perhaps this is what you are
experiencing. This no-linefind error does not happen on Hugin intel
OSX 10.6.8.

Hi Brian, I took a fast look and the file looks ok. I guess the
approach that others are suggesting here are more effective. Its
probably some bug on the compilation you are using. We can follow 2
objectives: try to solve the bug and/or try to make your pano. To do
your panorama faster I would suggest that you install other version
and use it to create the final panorama. I am still using 2010.4.0 on
a windows XP. I have tried the last release of 2011.2.0 but yesterday
it got frozen when I opened the fast preview window, so I came back to
2010.4.0 again.

You can have many versions installed. Just take the 7z file and
uncompress each one in a different folder.

Hello Carlos,

On Windows Vista, I only had 2 freezes using the fast preview +
overview in 49 panoramas using either 2011.2.0 RC5 or 2011.2.0 final,
which is probably close to what I experienced before the "pesky bug".
So maybe you could try again 2011.2.0.

Ok, I will, it is still installed here. Thanks.

Maybe it could have a function to save the job automatically before
open the preview window. I have already lost work some times :)

Well, I guess it would be a good idea to save anyhow, even if the bug is much less frequent.

Good afternoon,

My name is Charlotte. I use hugin 2012 for more than 6 months without any problems, making more than 500 panoramas. And today, doesn't work, exactly the same error than this post.

I have tried to reinstall hugin but doesn't do anything. So a stupid question but where can I found the previous version of hugin ? The twos platforms indicated on the website don't give hugin 2011 for 64 bits...

Thank you very much

Which OS are you running Hugin on? Windows, Linux, Mac?

Sorry, my post was light.

I'm under WIndows 7, with 64bits.

I used Hugin 2011.4.0. Everything worked and suddenly this problem well described by the first post of this discussion. Same message "failed to create connection to server PTIbatcherGUI..."

I uninstall, reinstall Hugin. I tried the version 2011.2 and 2011.4 and that doesn't work again. Sometimes, 30min after the stitcher open and create the panorama.

What is interesting today is that I tried to install the version 2012 and I have during the installation the message attached. (took a screen shot with the file hugin open).

Do you know how I can fixe the problem ?

Thank you

Your install problem could be because PTBatcherGui is still loaded (althogh doing nothing) in the background. I never use PTBatcherGUI, because I started to use Hugin before PTBatcher GUI was added, and I stick to my old habits. If you are interested trying the other way, go to Preferences, Stitching tab and in the Processor group choose Hugin_stitch_project instead of PTBatcherGUI.

yes it's working now. Is everything the same between the two software in terms of results (quality isn't better with PTI ?)

But for sure i'm going to use Hugin_stitch_project and Hugin. Still the best panorama stitcher that it's accessible.

Thank you very much for your answer.

AFAIK, the quality of the results is identical. I would be very much surprised and disappointed if this were not true!

FYI I have the same problem, and have had it since I installed the latest version of Hugin 2013.0.0.0d404a7088e6.

I find that if I wait 10-15 minutes, The Batch Stitcher will finally load.  It is somewhat frustrating lol.

Go to File > Preferences > Stitching and set "Processor" to

I got this same problem after several succesfull panoramas. I worked out this by shutting down Hugins Patch Processor -application from task bar. Right click and Exit from Hugin icon in task bar. And no problems anymore! =)
