Tom Smith visited me yesterday, and we spent some time playing round
with some rather unusual panoramas.

I'll report later, but one unexpected thing cropped up: how do you
pronounce “Hugin”? Tom pronounces it like “who gin”, and I pronounce
it like “hug in”. Who is right? Is either of us right?

I've always said hug-in, but I'm sure the correct pronunciation is hoo-gin (and moo-nin).

I once added the pronounciation (like Pablo used it presenting Hugin at
the 2004 Panotools meeting in Stuttgart) as IPA transcription to the
english Wikipedia article:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hugin_(software)

Does that work for you?

Cheers,
Carl

And to add to this: Huginn and Muninn (or Hugin and Munin) were Odin's raven (perhaps needless to mention, but anyway).
See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Huginn_and_Muninn

When pronouncing in Norwegian, both pronunciations of hug-in and hoo-gin are not 100% correct. It is a bit in the middle.

I say it like it was a French word and type it "üжę" ;)

Thanks. For the others, the pronunciation is /ˈhʊɡɪn/. So neither
Tom nor I were correct.

Yes, I noticed this, but I couldn't see any connection. Is there one?

Like in German, a short u („Huggin“)? I still have difficulty
identifying IPA vowels, and the only vocalizer I can find
(https://ipa-reader.com/) doesn't make it any easier by pronouncing
them very differently depending on choice of speaker.
