Hi

I am using the Hugin 2009.2.0.4461 with control point detector using
autopano-SIFT-c (default settings). I tried to use that to create
points for the result taken from a circular fisheye but the system
could not find any control points.

My testing is, using 4 photos taken from a Canon 5d2 + Sigma 8mm
Fisheye lens. I aware that the system generate 0 points and then
crashes everytime.

If I do not specify it as circular fisheye, but using other lens
settings (e.g. as normal), it could create control point and it does
not crash.

Is there something missing?

Thanks
Wolfgang

This should work. What do you mean by 'crash'? Do you get an error
message? Does Hugin die completely, or do you just get no control
points?

Hi,
No control point for the first few photos (e.g. if I have taken 12, then I could see that for the first 4 to 5 I got no control points)   like this:
Filename C:\Prj_VR\Photos\IMG_1578.JPG
  width 5616  height 3744  format 2  hfov 257.831
  reduce size to 1600 x 1067
  use stereographic projection
  0 keypoints found

Then once it finished all the photos. it shows:

80.1 seconds to find keypoints
Matching; ransac off, ANNmatch on...

And then pop up a window saying that "autopano-sift-c.exe has problem" and it has to be shut down.  It gives me option either to report the problem or not (standard window when a program crashes in Windows).

After I click on "not to report" and go back to the Hugin, of course, no control point is found and all photos are unconnected.

Looks like the autopano-sift-c could not work for circular fisheye.

I use the same installation and same autopano-sift-c on other lens such as full frame fisheye, and I do not see such a trouble.

Thanks
Wolfgang

Can you upload this photo somewhere? It seems unlikely that no
keypoints would be found.

yes, i also face this problem with circular fisheye. On some pictures it adds control points and in some it does not. May be it can be due to less overlapping.
Secondly in circular fisheye images control points are added on black areas outside circle of fisheye image. I overcome this issue by adding  CROP circle in hugin. I go to hugin crop and than add a circle on images.

But these experts can tell us why and where we are going wrong. Because hugin is a very intelligent software and i strongly believe this.

Wolfgang- I've never gotten any control points for my fisheyes when using
autopano-sift-c. But I get as many as I need with panomatic. Especially if
I increase the values for sieve1:

panomatic --fullscale --sieve1width 25 --sieve1height 25 --sieve1size 25

(The problem with panomatic in my previous post is an exception.)

Hi Wolfgang,

slightly off topic, but why are you shooting panos with a 5d mk2 and
sigma fisheye? That's a terrible waste of your beautiful sensor. Get a
fullframe fisheye, or a samyang, or a tokina 10-17, or a shaved
nikkor. anything but a full circular fisheye!!!!

btw I use autopano-sift-c and circular fisheyes, and it generates lots
of ctrl points.

I did not get any ctrl point if I shot Circular in landscape. Berno
told me that it was because of the bug in autopano-sift-c had a
trouble to handle if the grog > 225 degree. He told me to shoot using
portrait, then I should get ctrl point created! I have not tried this
yet!

Jeff, the reason I use circular because for some situation I want to
shoot hand held with as less shot as I can. I also have a Canon 15mm
but I have to shoot with tripod and pano head with it.

Wolfgang

Sorry, two typo... It was Bruno who told me that autopano-sift-c could
not create ctrl point if hdof > 225 degree if I remember correctly.

yes, Bruno is correct as usual. and it will work, i'm doing that right
now.

Wolfgang, you can certainly shoot with your 15mm handheld. Just
practice :)

if you want 3 shot panos, get a shaved nikkor or samyang. MUCH higher
resolution final panos, still in 3 shots.
