I want to combine static images and video into one equirect.

Here is what I want to do

1.Capture 360x180 panorama with 8mm lens in a desert. Make 6 static shots and make an equirect.
2.Make a video clip of timelapse sky by pointing lens upward towards sky).
3.How can I replace sky static image with this partial video clip into an equirect.
4.How will it be displayed in a viewer?

Until now the only video I have put in a panorama [1] was more partial than this one you are planning, but I have already thought very much on how to do this.

As I have read and saw in some examples, Salado Player (a free flash plugin pano viewer) also accepts video into a panorama. I have used krpano on that one and I know that krpano accepts a full 360x180 video, as the Russian guys have done [2]. I don't know if Salado Player will accept this (anyone?).

To make this video I think the better option is to stitch one frame, then use the Hugin file as a template to stitch the other ones. At the end, with the frames stitched, you can make a video. There are plenty of tools with which you can make it and I think you are not asking this.

As your final stitched video maybe wont have regular edges, either you could stitch it together with part of the picture, making a regular crop in order not to make a full sphere video (as it could get bigger without purpose), or you could let it irregular and use another layer above it in the flash viewer using a png file with transparency in the video parts. Using a mask like this would be easier and maybe work better than trying to make the video fits exactly with the back panorama. I have also already read that transparency on video could work on flash players, but wont work on HTML5 for the iThings.

Thanks and nice ideas bruno.

Video editing softwares also supports layers and masks. We can make two layers. One with static equirect and one with video area. use masking and set video output time according to video duration. It will become a spherical video and krpano supports it. But if video is on central part of equirect than it will be fine. But if its like sky than how it will be fitted with all distortions?

Bruno?

Yes, video software works with layers. My suggestion of using a layer in the flash plugin was for a partial video. For a fullshpere video surely you could make everything in the video editor.

I don't really know how to do this with the sky. I start thinking of two approaches, assuming that using the whole equirectangular is not desirable, in order to try to make a smaller and lighter video:

1. Editing the video in the equirectangular format, but only the sky part, which would be a very distorted image in the place of the sky - a cropped equirectangular. To do this it would be necessary to stitch each frame (script?). I don't really know if Salado Player or Krpano would correctly use a video like this nor how to specify its format and position to the players.

2. When the players show the panorama they use a specific projection, that can be arquitectural, fisheye, ... Maybe you can stitch the sky video using this projection and put the final video in the zenith position in the player configuration. I guess in all cases the frames would need to be stitched one by one.

It all depends on how the players can be configured and on those aspects I have don't have experience, so, if I would do that surely would need to do some tests first. A good idea to test would be a one frame video.
