Hi,
I'm trying to use autopano-sift-c in Hugin (2016.2.0).
I then put its content in /opt and tried to find control points between 2 images within Hugin and got this message:

Command: /opt/autopano-sift-C-2.5.1/autopano-c-complete --maxmatches 30 --projection 0,44.592084 /tmp/ap_resJb3I2l  "/<path-to-image1>.JPG" "/<path-to-image2>.JPG"
failed
with error code: 2

What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

If you call it like this from the shell what‘s the output? Does autopano-sift support -verbose or similar switches?

I didn't call it from the shell. Just clicked on Create Control Points in Hugin.

Ok so the default command in Hugin was wrong so I replaced it with a proper one:
/opt/autopano-sift-C-2.5.1/autopano-c-complete -p 40 -o /tmp/pano-test.pto  "<path-to-image1>" "<path-to-image2>"

But now I get this :
Can't exec "generatekeys": No such file or directory at /opt/autopano-sift-C-2.5.1/autopano-c-complete line 40.
Can't exec "generatekeys": No such file or directory at /opt/autopano-sift-C-2.5.1/autopano-c-complete line 40.
Can't exec "autopano": No such file or directory at /opt/autopano-sift-C-2.5.1/autopano-c-complete line 43.

The downloaded tar.gz archive contains those files but with a ".c" at the end so it's not pre-compiled. Except that I tried following the instructions in README under "Installation from the sources:" but when I run
make clean all
I get
make: *** No rule to make target 'clean'.  Stop.

autopano-sift-c is deprecated and not maintained any more (in the meantime for more than 10 years, mainly because of patent and license issues).

From the release notes:
It is strongly recommended to set the default control point detector to Hugin's CPFind. It is the only control point generator endorsed by Hugin.

If it doesn't work anymore, why is it still in the dropdown menu ?

For historic reasons. It dates before cpfind. You can remove it in the preferences. I will remove it from the default settings for the next release.

Hello Thomas

When you take Autopano Sift-C from the default settings, then yoy can take away Autopano (A. Jenny) from the default settings too.
It doesn't work on windows 7 and higher. and it is only a 32 -bits program.
The newest hugin is only 64 bits in Windows. You can only use it in a Virtual Windows XP  machine and an old version of Hugin.

Kind Regards,
Henk Tijdink

A. Jennys autopano works here fine (Windows 10, 64 bit), but it is unmaintained (and Kolors has closed).

Please don't remove panomatic until cpfind functions reliably under
all circumstances.

I'm not aware of problems with cpfind. There are no reports in the bug tracker or recently here on the list.
No program will work under *all* circumstances.
(panomatic is unmaintained also since 10 years and it has also problems with fisheye lens.)
Also only the default setting will be removed. An user who needs it can add it every time.

I wasn't aware of a bug tracker, and I can't find any reference on
http://hugin.sourceforge.net/. Where is it? It would be a good idea
to add a link on the home page.

I've reported these bugs in the past, and discussed them with you.
I'll do so again. I haven't put them in the bug tracker because I'm
trying to find a cause. I do a weekly series of panoramas round my
house, and almost every time I run into problems. Now that I go back
to try to reproduce them, of course, I can't find them, but next time
it happens (probably on Saturday), I'll report here, and to the bug
tracker if I have found it by then.

My problems were with fisheye lenses, and in some cases panomatic did
better than cpfind.

Good to hear. But how does the user know what to add?

The "Tech" page links to "Launchpad", there's a bug tracker:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/hugin

There is a link on the homepage in the main menu. (Maybe the label could be better, but then the whole menu would increase).
Also the main help page of Hugin contains a link to it.
Furthermore the bug tracker was mentioned (with link) for each release of betas/rcs in the last years.

Good to hear.  But how does the user know what to add?
The settings are documented in the help.

Thanks. It's well hidden. I'll use it when I have something to
report.

I assume you're talking about the "Launchpad" link. I wouldn't have
recognized it if I hadn't read Jens' mail first, and I might have
missed the submenu "bugs".

What's wrong with that? A link that nobody understands is of little
use. I still don't understand the text "Launchpad". It certainly
doesn't sound like anything to do with bug reports.

Certainly not a disadvantage, but by no means a substitute for clear
web page navigation.

 Hello Thomas

Tested autopano and it still works.
Further I have a license of PTAssembler and use it too. That has it's own control point generator named ptapicker.
On the website you can find a lot of info about various generating methods.Tested in hugin and it does a good job too. Same parameters as panomatic.
Further cpfind compiled with static libraries I use in PTAssembler. copied them in the folder of PTAssembler
Last static compiled cpfind 32 bit is in hugin 2011.4
Last static compiled cpfind 64 bit is in hugin 2013.0
