Hi Alan,
the official 2010.0 release came with a file 'Read me first (Mac).rtfd'
that contains some instructions. These are outdated for the coming
2011.0 release and the file itself is missing in the current builds by
Harry. Also the official 2010.4 dmg comes with no ReadMe which is odd.
Basically it's fairly simpel on Mac: the Hugin.app is actually a package
(some sort of a special folder) that contains everything needed. Running
it the first time will create a preferences file in your library ('hugin
Preferences' in 'Macintosh HD/Users/<YourAccount>/Library/Preferences/).
So dragging the .app to your Applications folder is OK. Deleting it will
"de-install" everything but the prefs file. If you are curious you can
right-click or ctrl-click Hugin.app and select 'Show package contents'
from the context menu.
However I follow the habit to set up a new folder (like 'hugin-2010.4')
in a place where I group my other panorama software so I can easily
switch between different hugin versions... the Applications folder is
certainly a good choice but also the desktop will work nicely. Then I
put everything from the .dmg image in that new folder.
The folder 'enblend-enfuse-4.0' is only needed if you still work with
Mac OS X 10.4 a.k.a. Tiger. On later system versions you can just delete
or ignore it.
The folder 'Control Point Generators' contains a ReadMe. Read it for
some instructions where to download from and how to install additional
CP generators. Even if 2010.4 already has a built in CP generator these
are highly recommended if you can agree to their license.
Now you are ready to start Hugin and have a look at the Preferences (in
menu Hugin), this is explained here
<http://wiki.panotools.org/Hugin_Preferences>
and here
<http://panorama.dyndns.org/index.php?lang=en&subject=Hugin&texttag=Hugin>
-> Hugin 2009/2010 ControlPoint generators
Hope that helps,
Carl
Thank you. This was very helpful. I have successfully installed
Hugin. I shall have to take the time to use it now!
