You're invited to learn about geospatial conservation applications around the world and gain practical skills to apply in your own work by registering for the virtual SCGIS International Conference, running online Aug. 14-19th! 


Professionals, students, and the public alike are invited to join this global convening of the conservation GIS community online August 14 -19 for keynote speakers, workshops, presentations, and virtual networking. We invite you to participate in this exchange of scientific knowledge, tools, and best practices, and to connect with a vibrant and inclusive international community using geospatial technology to advance the conservation of environment, species, land, and cultures. 


Our conference workshops, taking place August 14th, 15th and 19th, cover topics such as Spatial Data with R Part 1: Intro to R for Newbies, Spatial Data in R Part 2: Data Processing and Analysis for Conservation, Introduction to LIDAR, Comparing Two Field Data Gathering Tools: ArcGIS Survey123 and ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS StoryMaps, and Working with ArcGIS Field Maps. 


Our two outstanding keynote speakers, Dr. Klink and Dr. Gore, will address our theme “Nature: From Loss to Sustainable Use", in presentations on Wednesday, August 16 @ 9:45 AM and on Thursday, August 17 @ 9:30 AM PDT to .


Dr. Meredith Gore is on the faculty of the Department of Geographical Sciences at the University of Maryland, College ParkShe is a conservation social scientist with interest in understanding human dimensions of global environmental change such as biodiversity loss and climate change. Dr. Gore brings an interdisciplinary perspective to a range of conservation issues such as wildlife trafficking, illegal fishing and illegal logging. 


Dr. Carlos Klink is a native Brazilian and a professor of Ecology at the University of Brasilia. A former National Secretary for Climate Change and Deputy-Minister of the Environment of Brazil, Dr. Klink has 37 years of experience working with land-use, climate change, and climate finance, partnering with corporations, financial institutions, trade forums, governments, academia and NGOsTo learn more about current work, see https://cerradoinitiative.eco.br/.
