Discovery Workshop: People-Centered Smart Cities and Digital Human Rights in the Context of African Cities

We would like to invite you to an online workshop organized by UN-Habitat and the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights, in collaboration with AfroLeadership. The workshop aims to achieve three main objectives:
1. Presenting UN-Habitat’s People-Centered Smart Cities Flagship Program, and the Guide on Mainstreaming Human Rights in the Digital Transformation of Cities
2. Exploring opportunities for people-centered smart cities and digital human rights for African Cities
3. Initiating future collaboration among the cities and with existing networks such as the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights.
This 1.5 hours session will be held online on the
5th of June at 10am CET/11 am Nairobi Time

During the past 2 years, UN-Habitat and the Cities Coalition for Digital Rights have been developing guidance to empower local governments to take a multi-stakeholder approach to digital transformation that realizes sustainability, inclusivity, prosperity and human rights for the benefit of all. Through the implementation of pilots in Europe and Latin America, we have provided technical support to cities and connected them with experts and available resources through the development and testing of a concept called the Digital Helpdesk for Cities. The team is also initiating efforts to expand the Helpdesk in Africa starting with research to understand the local and regional context of digital rights and the challenges faced by civil society organizations.
