在迦密山上, 以利亚要求假神巴力同以色列的真神, 展开最后一轮的较量。结果, 巴力还是没有回应他的众先知所发出的呼求。以利亚再次向人群讲话。其实, 早在之前, 以利亚就曾经挑战过他们, 让他们做出抉择, 到底是跟从假神巴力, 还是信靠真神耶和华, 那时候, 他们只是沉默不语。（列王纪上18:21） 即或如此, 如同耶稣也不断地向人发出邀请"来跟从我"一样, 以利亚依然给百姓第二次机会。当以利亚发出"你们到我这里来"的邀请后, 百姓上前来, 亲眼见证以利亚如何预备祭坛, 然后和以利亚一起将水倒在坛上, 并同心等候耶和华。 以利亚没有连声不断地哀求及大喊大叫, 反而是上前来凝重地求告永生的上帝。这位永生的神不仅过去是亚伯拉罕、以撒和以色列的神, 此刻祂也是以利亚的神, 祂垂听以利亚的呼求。一下子只见坛的四围盛满的水, 霎时被神降下来的火烧尽了。都因为以利亚求神向百姓显明, 好让百姓看到差派他的耶和华才是真神, 唯有祂才能"叫这民的心回转"。 百姓看见神的大能, 就一一打破沉默, 说: "耶和华是神, 耶和华是神。"能听见神的邀请十分重要, 但是, 如何用口、用心和用生命去回应这个邀请, 也同样重要。 |
On Mount Carmel, Elijah has called for a showdown between the false god Baal and the true God of Israel. Baal has not responded to the cries of his prophets. Elijah turns again to the people who have gathered. Earlier that day, Elijah had challenged the people to choose between Baal and the living God. The people's response at that time was silence (see 1 Kings 18:21). But Elijah gives the people another opportunity to respond. This invitation parallels the invitation of Jesus when he says, "Follow me." In response to Elijah's call, "Come here to me," the people come forward and watch as Elijah prepares the altar. They participate in soaking the sacrifice, and they wait upon the Lord. Instead of the noise of constant pleading and shouting, Elijah steps forward to pray to the living God. And the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Israel responds in that time and place. The soaked sacrifice is no match for the fire of God. Elijah has asked God to respond so that the people will know that the Lord who sent Elijah is the true God, who is "turning their hearts back again." The people's silence is completely broken by their response to seeing God at work: "The LORD—he is God! The LORD—he is God!" Hearing the invitation is vital, but so is responding to that invitation, with voices, hearts, and lives. |

今天经文： 列王纪上18:30-3930 以利亚对众民说: "你们到我这里来。"众民就到他那里。他便重修已经毁坏耶和华的坛。31 以利亚照雅各子孙支派的数目, 取了十二块石头（耶和华的话曾临到雅各说: "你的名要叫以色列"）, 32 用这些石头为耶和华的名筑一座坛, 在坛的四围挖沟, 可容谷种二细亚, 33 又在坛上摆好了柴, 把牛犊切成块子放在柴上, 对众人说: "你们用四个桶盛满水, 倒在燔祭和柴上"; 34 又说: "倒第二次。"他们就倒第二次; 又说: "倒第三次。"他们就倒第三次。 35 水流在坛的四围, 沟里也满了水。 36 到了献晚祭的时候, 先知以利亚近前来, 说: "亚伯拉罕、以撒、以色列的神, 耶和华啊, 求你今日使人知道你是以色列的神, 也知道我是你的仆人, 又是奉你的命行这一切事。 37 耶和华啊, 求你应允我, 应允我! 使这民知道你－耶和华是神, 又知道是你叫这民的心回转。" 38 于是, 耶和华降下火来, 烧尽燔祭、木柴、石头、尘土, 又烧干沟里的水。 39 众民看见了, 就俯伏在地, 说: "耶和华是神! 耶和华是神!
