Folks

 

I want to try and work with BMTC to look at Embassy Golf Links as the pilot for the bussing option for IT campus /office employees.(See chain of mails below)

 

IBM did try putting buses to EGL campus but failed to lack of participation from the employees. 2 main reasons

 

1) Buses were non AC

2) They were at a scheduled time which makes if difficult for employees. They want to be flexible in terms of their departure due to work load, meetings etc.

 

The solution is not restricted to IBM alone but can be extended to all the employees in the campus (30,000+).

 

Will need some support and volunteers for this effort. Lets discuss in the meeting this week.

Nithin,

We in RESO are full aware of the ur inputs.  But we had introduced 9 buses
to EGL - for various routes, initially there was a very good response and
subsequently only 4 employees were available in one bus,, hence the CFO
decided to stop the services of the buses.  This call was taken by all the
BU heads of EGL .

We have no issue in supporting the transport once again,,,  we can  take-it
up once the BU/Deb gives us the approval to start the registration ..

There is a urgent need for having buses to EGL campus from different parts
of the city.

I agree that IBM did try to put contract buses but failed due to poor
response.

We want to try again through BMTC for putting buses to EGL.

The background:

There are 30,000+ employees who commute to EGL every day. The number of
cars has more than doubled in the last 1 year. There is a urgent need for
public transport to avoid congestion and ease the traffic situation.

The Solution

I am working with a group called Hasiru Usiru who are working with BMTC to
put buses on key office routes in Bangalore. We want to have EGL as a pilot
where in BMTC will put "Office special" buses from different parts of the
city.We have met Mr. Dastagir Sharieff, Chief Traffic Manager, BMTC for
this for a preliminary discussion. Hes open to the idea if we get some
concrete solution along with IT companies.

We would appreciate your help on this. I will try for a follow up meeting
with Mr.Sharieff and we can discuss this to come up with a solution.

The solution could be on the following lines

1) BMTC introduces AC/Non AC buses from key points in the city to EGL.
2) IT companies as a group in the EGL campus can provide inputs to BMTC for
routes, pickup points and communication
3) Embassy could provide bus stops within the campus where the buses can
stop for 15 mins before the next trip

There is someone whos doing a survey on potential Bus routes in Bangalore.

Im sure we can leverage this for IBM.

In an individual capacity, I am working with a group to promote bussing. We
also met BMTC officials last month. I am willing to work with your team if
we can take this- Buses to EGL campus- up as an initiative.
