ConnectM is an IT company who wants to host us for a talk. The talk
has been tentatively scheduled for 4 pm, this Fri at ConnectM. I'll
get details of the location later, but it's somewhere near the ORR and
Sarjapur Road crossing.
Kathyayini has volunteered to give the talk. However, it would be good
to have a few people from our side present, to provide different
perspectives, and help handle questions. Hence, we are looking for
volunteers who are available to accompany Kathyayini. Unfortunately
Ranjita and I are going to be out of town on Fri.
Kathyayini: Do you have access to Das's slides? They are on
http://groups.google.com/group/hu_namma_raste
The file is large and will take a while to download.
Kanishka.
Kanishka.
Yes. That is what they told me then. I will confirm and let you know.
I will put you in direct contact with the HR person who is hosting us
so she can give you directions.
From our side, we need to provide them with a talk title, abstract and
speaker info. Here's a quick stab, based on the content on the HU
website. Feel free to modify, but I'd like to send this out today. So
please make edits/send me feedback by 5 pm. Kathyayini - I need a
brief bio from you.
Title: "Namma Raste: A Citizen's Initiative To Address Bangalore's
Traffic-Induced Crises"
Speaker: Kathyayini Chamaraj
Abstract:
Bangalore's roads are in complete chaos. Our city is trapped in the
never-ending cycle of trying to match the vehicular population by
increasing road space. However, according to many studies, it is
unlikely that road infrastructure alone will be able to sustain the
phenomenal increase in vehicular traffic the city is witnessing. Namma
Raste is a campaign being conducted by Hasiru Usiru to move Bangalore
towards a more sustainable traffic model by encouraging well-planned
public transport that reduces the need for cars and two-wheelers. We
are a group of people who would like to see a coherent urban transport
policy being applied in this city by engaging with the proper
Government bodies responsible for transport and development. So come
join us in our efforts! In this talk, we will present an overview of
the traffic crisis faced by Bangalore, will compare alternative
solutions, and discuss how we as citizens can have an impact on the
future of this city.
