new installation, config not altered at all. Not filters or rules set up.

The Gateway is correct (i.e. same as our LAN proxy server).

It's not capturing any web traffic at all - regardless of which browser I use.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks

What do you see if you visit the following URLs in your browser:

http://localhost.fiddler:8888/ : 504 error in browser, nothing displayed in fiddler
http://127.0.0.1:8888/ : "Fiddler Echo Service" displayed in browser, two GET messages captured by Fiddler.

Thanks

This indicates that Fiddler is running and reachable, but your browser's proxy settings are not pointed at Fiddler.

Are you using Firefox or IE, or both? When Fiddler is running, what do you see inside IE's Tools > Internet Options > Connections > LAN Settings screen? What version of IE do you have installed?

Thanks for the reply. I've tried both FF and IE.

In the IE LAN Settings screen, there is a proxy server configured (our standard corporate web proxy). "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" is ticked.

I'm using IE9.

Thanks

In Fiddler, does it say "Capturing" at the bottom-left corner of the window? In Fiddler's LOG tab, does it say anything about the proxy setting?

In Firefox, did you enable the proxy using the FiddlerHook extension or by manually pointing the proxy settings at 127.0.0.1:8888?

In IE, does the Internet Options Control Panel have a banner that says something like "Some settings are controlled by your Administrator"?

It does say "Capturing", yes. The Log tab does not contain anything regarding a proxy.

I've just enabled the fiddlerhook in Firefox, and can now see all traffic via FF. So that's good news.

I can't see any message along those lines in the IE internet options dialog.

Thanks

If, after starting Fiddler, you manually try to change the IE proxy settings to point to 127.0.0.1 with port 8888, do those settings save properly (e.g. click OK, then click LAN Settings again)?

Are you an Administrator on your system? If so, if you run Fiddler elevated as an Administrator, are the IE proxy settings set properly?
