Fiddler is not capturing traffic after upgrading from IE 9 to IE 10

1. Using Windows Updates, I selected the optional update for IE 10 to upgrade my Internet Explorer from IE 9 to IE 10 on my Windows 7 Enterprise 64-Bit OS computer.
2. Fiddler does not seem to be working anymore. I'd been using Fiddler on the same machine for a long time until it broke after the upgrade. I don't think anything changed on this machine other than the IE upgrade.
3. I tried upgrading to the latest version of Fiddler (v4.4.9.9) and it still did not make a difference. (I ran as administrator while installing Filddler).
4. Other things I have verified:
    a. File > Capture Traffic is checked.
    b. "Use Filters" is unchecked.
5. I looked in WinINET Options > Connections > LAN Settings to see if the proxy server was set up correctly. But "Use a proxy server for your LAN" option was unchecked. So, I tried to set this up manually by checking this option and entering Address 127.0.0.1 and Port 8888 and clicking the OK button. However, this setting did not save as expected when I tried reopening WinINET Options. All the changes were reset and  "Use a proxy server for your LAN" option was unchecked.
6. I checked with our IT department and there has been no policy change. So, I'm not sure why this setting can't be set by Fiddler or manually by me (local admin on my computer.)

Any ideas why Fiddler is not capturing traffic? Thanks.

Fiddler is not capturing traffic because, as you discovered, your proxy settings are broken.

This is an obscure problem in IE10's WinINET library that Microsoft has been made aware of, but they haven't discovered the fix yet.

You might try using Tools > Internet Options > Advanced's "Reset..." button to attempt to correct the problem.
If that doesn't work, you might try uninstalling IE10 and installing IE11 instead.
If that doesn't help, I'm afraid you'll need to contact Microsoft Product support.

If you use Chrome or Firefox, those browsers can be configured to point to Fiddler regardless of the system's proxy settings.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Eric -
Are you saying that Fiddler will not capture in any IE 10 environment?
The company I work for is still on IE9 for now.

I notice that FiddlerCap works for me on my home PC which uses IE10.

Thanks for making a great trace tool Eric!

Faithfully,
Gary

Hi Eric,

Thanks a lot for your response.

- Advanced's Reset did not fix this problem.
- However, I uninstalled IE10 and re-installed it. (I do need IE10 for what I'm doing, so I cannot upgrade to IE11 at this time.) Re-installing IE10 fixed the problem! I'm not sure how it got into that state earlier where proxy settings were broken, however, fiddler is capturing traffic as expected now.

Appreciate your help!
