Hi,

I'm using the Microsoft Edge 38.14393.1066.0 browser.  I start a fiddler trace and then stop it and close fiddler.  If can do a Bing search, some of the results (but not all) in the Bing search give errors like:

Can’t connect to the proxy server

Try this

  • Make sure firewall settings aren’t blocking your web access
  • Ask your system administrator for help
If I click on the Go to proxy settings button, it shows me that I don't have a proxy running.  If I refresh the tab that's showing the error, it continues to show the error. After a few minutes I can click on the same result in the Bing search that earlier gave me the error and it will open correctly.  If I refresh the tab that's showing me the error it will continue to show the error.  If I copy and paste the url from the bad tab to a new tab, it will render the page correctly.

There are a variety of possibilities here. First things first: When you say "it shows me that I don't have a proxy running" -- can you share a screenshot of that?

In Fiddler, do you see the traffic from the failing requests?

Have you clicked the WinConfig button at the top left of Fiddler and allowed access from all appcontainers?

Hi Eric,

I'm not running fiddler when I get the error.  It's when I run it and then close fiddler by clicking on the X button.  After I do this, I get the error on some tabs in Edge and not in others.  Here's a screenshot:

Here's the proxy settings I see when I click on the button:

For some reason it isn't putting the images where I would expect it to.

Thanks,
Eric

The first screenshot is almost helpful: We'd want to see the content that appears when you click the Proxy link at the bottom of the list on the left.

It's possible that Edge has a bug where it doesn't properly notice that the system proxy has changed (it's had this bug at least once in the past). If you restart Edge after stopping Fiddler, does the problem go away?

Hi Eric,

Here's the screenshot that appears when I click at the Proxy link at the bottom left of settings (looks the same as before to me, am I missing something?):

Posting this using Chrome.  Using Firefox earlier and it didn't seem to put the image at my insertion point in my posting.

Thanks,
Eric

The original screenshot showed the "Wifi" settings; this screenshot shows the Proxy settings. It shows that "Use a proxy server" is disabled, which means that Fiddler is correctly detaching as the system's proxy. (You don't have a VPN or dialup connection, do you?).

Eric,

No dialup, I'm connected via an ethernet cable.  VPN isn't running.

Thanks,
Eric

Hi,

I'm using:

Microsoft Edge 38.14393.1066.0

Since this is a corporate laptop, I made not have the absolute latest version of Edge.  I believe Edge updates are considered part of the OS and so aren't automatically updated unlike all the other browsers.

Closing Edge when it has multiple tabs open and reopening it doesn't help.  I have one tab that complains about the proxy server, both before and after.  The bad tab doesn't work if I refresh it, but if I open a new tab and paste the url from the bad tab over, it works.
