Hi,

I have a machine where I'm not an admin on that machine. Around three
guys (including me) use that machine by logging in with their Ids,
where all the three are not administrator on that machine. I logged in
to that machine and when I try to install, it threw an error saying
"failed to write registry.." I have gone through one of the post where
Eric asked to copy the Fiddler installation folder and try working
from their. I tried doing that but what I observe is all the responses
are getting decoded and uncompressed even though actually they are. I
have verified the "Auto Decode" option is disabled, but still see all
the responses getting decoded and uncompressed, but where as this is
not the same case with the other system where I have admin privileges.

Hence can you please help me on how to overcome the following
problems.

1. Get fiddler to work under a user account who is not an
administrator.
2. How to get the neXpert for an user without admin privileges?

Please help as this is blocking lot of our work and to get the admin
privileges it is very tough as it needs to go through 5 layers of
approval.

Thanks,
Ganesh

1> Fiddler will work properly with a simple xcopy deployment; admin
permissions are only used to create shortcuts and add the uninstaller
to the Add/Remove programs applet.

I'm not sure what exactly you mean when you say "all the responses are
getting decoded"? What leads you to conclude that they were encoded
to begin with?

2> I'm afraid I have no idea how you could install neXpert without
admin permissions or if it will run properly if XCopy'd. You should
ask on the neXpert blog.

Hi Eric,

Thanks for your quick reply. I will try again using the xcopy
command.

>>I'm not sure what exactly you mean when you say "all the responses are getting decoded"?

After doing a Fiddler capture of my application few of the aspx pages
are encrypted and compressed. But when I just copied the Fiddler
folder onto the machine which doesn't have admin privileges and tried
to do the capture for the same page, here I see the pages are
decrypted and uncompressed.

Anyways I shall do that again and let you know.

Regarding the neXpert, I shall post my question on the neXpert forum.

Thanks once again!

Thanks,
Ganesh

Hey Ganesh,

The following should work for you...
Install neXpert on another computer. Copy the DLL and helpfile from
the [UserDocuments]\Fiddler2\Scripts directory to the computer with
the issue.

Thanks
Eric
