Dear colleagues,
As you all know , WHO is trying to have a harmonized nomenclature of medical devices. This was discussed in May 2019. Some countries requested WHO to develop one, others advocated for GMDN. But WHO cannot use GMDN for all countries because it does not comply with WHO principles of being: a Global good, having a transparent assignation of codes, being completely freely available to everybody, everywhere, and to be able to use it for inventories systems, CMMS, procurement, regulations, etc.
Member states asked WHO not to develop a new one but to select from what is available. WHO selected CND (from Italy )that will become the European one (Basis for EUDAMED). A Member States discussion will take place in the Executive Board of WHO next week .
Everyone can see the agenda of the day as the discussions for all topics are advancing.
