FW: EMA Brown Bag Lunches - Need 2nd Year Volunteers

Hey guys,

 

I want to pass out this idea from EMA board. As many of you, I've received many emails soliciting for informational interviews and even though I would love to have a one to one with each requester, it's impossible for me to handle so many lunches/ breakfasts.

 

For that, EMA is organizing brown bag lunches. I don't know if one of you've already had this activity in agenda, but I would like to share this idea to start to do something similar. If nobody is in charge of this, I can organize a google doc with student name/ summer internship - function & company/ recruiting focus/ availability during November columns.

2^nd Years,

 

As discussed in last week’s board meeting, we want to get some brown bag lunches going this quarter.  If you are willing to host one in the next few weeks please let me and Robin know by Friday evening.  We also thought it would be helpful if these were themed in some way either by industry, subject area, etc – really whatever you would like to discuss.  That way, 1^st years can pick what is most relevant to them and 2^nd years can speak directly to their expertise/experiences.

 

Some general topic ideas:

·         Interacting with recruiters/recruiting process

·         Interview experiences/questions

·         Function/Area Specifics:

o   Working at Studios vs. Non-Studios

o   Industry comps (Specific business units like TV vs. Film, or working in more general corporate positions)

·         Entertainment Specific Classes/Opportunities at UCLA and Anderson

·         Transitioning from a non-entertainment background

·         Business models/economics of entertainment (either general or industry/function specific)

 

Once we have a few 2^nd years locked in, we will send out a spreadsheet for 1^st years to sign up.

Thanks for bringing this up Noelia! 

 It's a good idea, and is pretty close to what we aim to do with the insider panels, which Angela heads up. So the best person to chat with and coordinate is Angela to get her thoughts, and potentially to see if there are dates/subjects that might make sense. I believe the career dev team has a pretty good sense of what subjects people are looking for, but if you or other board members have ideas let them know and we can see what we can do. I like the idea of doing  a couple more insider panels that are informal (and smaller?) with more of brown bag format, if there's interest in certain topics, or certain second years are getting bombarded with coffee chats (are y'all getting bombarded?). I know Angela has been busy, so if you or others had a particular topic in mind perhaps you could help put those together.

Angela- what are your thoughts?
