Below is what Microsoft said to do. It didn't work (what's new).
The .pst file that went corrupt didn't change in file size so I don't see
how it could be corrupt. My question is: Is there a reader
application that can open Outlook .pst files? Or any other suggestions
how to fix it?
>>> MS says:
see if your PST file is not locked, PST File > select it > File > get info >
check the locked box.
then try these options, you will have to use inbox repair tool from outlook
installed on win pc, as there is no such utility for outlook 2001 for Mac to
run on Mac, but Win PC can be used to recover data from PST from Mac
machines:

There's your problem. I have never seen a more problematic piece of
software, Mac or PC. Of course, I only see the PC version, but no other
mail client has as many problems as Outlook. We usually recommend
Outlook Express as the free client for PC users. Netscape is second.
Some of our users like Eudora. Anything is better than Outlook! Pine or
elm anyone?
Your long term solution is to use the Mail app that comes with OS X and
get rid of Outlook.

The company has 200 Windows boxes and 4 Macs. Guess where the support
