...so I was told by a co-worker. Not sure what the hours are, but
10:00 - 5:00 is probably a good bet for Saturday and 10:00 to 1:00
on Sunday.

I'll probably go by for a couple of hours around noon tomorrow and see
what I just can't live without.

Locals don't realize Huntsville has the best hamfest for hundreds of
miles around. Bigger and better than Birmingham. Bigger and better than
the last hamfest I bothered to attend in Atlanta.

So what was my best find today? A Dell USB keyboard with smartkey reader
for $5.

That's due in large part to there being no advertising about it outside
the ham community. I'd not have known about it if my co-worker hadn't
mentioned it Friday morning. There used to be an announcement posted
here the week before, but the guy doing it stopped for some reason. I
didn't see a word on any of the local TV news shows, either.

From what I can see, the ham community is both aging and shrinking; to
attract new members is necessary to advertise outside the existing
community. With all the social networking crud distracting kids, there
needs to be more active recruiting.

I picked up a small format keyboard (cut off everything right of the
"Enter" key) as well as a full-size keyboard for $6, and a roll of tape
for sealing outdoor cable connections.

There was an older gentleman at the restaurant speaking loudly about driving
from Alaska for the event. He had a yellow badge with the red dot and a
subcompact with an Alaska tag and Palin sticker to support that. I didn't
think that the road was paved and high ground clearance was needed to cope
with the mud.

My spell check passes 'din't.'
